bought a 2000 w202 c200 sport a few weeks back, when i purchased it it had FMBSH, i purchased it with just under 63000 on it,
however the last MB service was a B service but carried out june 2005 at 61702 as the car was SORN for the last 2 years,

should i get another full MB service to look over the whole car? and know what condition its in, then just take it to a specialist for any work out of the normal MB service,
or should i just take it to a merc specialist to look it over and get everything done there.

it has had an oil change about 3 months ago.... im more interested in keeping up the MB service history or at least jsut for now, so incase i need to make a Mobilo goodwill repair within the next year or so for any rust as there is a lil spotting on the bootlid lock area.

any idea on costs for an A or B serivce for a w202,

any specialists in the nw london area???

many thanks for all the replies in advance

I had a B done last year on mine and at the time it had 50,000 miles.....the cost was about £450 pounds.

For that they changed the oil, filter, pollen filter, wiper blade, and checked the car over. They also advised me that the car would need new plugs and an air filter and I would have to book it back in for those items to be replaced !!!!

I know you are thinking this is great value for money :eek::eek::eek:

I got the airfilter and changed it myself ......time taken...approx 2min

I changed the four plugs myself.....time taken....approx 30min

If I were you, and you want to maintain the MB service history, get the car checked over by an independant specialist and if you are unable to do any work yourself, get them to do it apart from the oil change, and then take it into MB for the service.

If you already have had a B service you are due for the A. That works out to be a bit over £300 and for that they don't change the pollen filter !!!!!

I am sorry to say that your car was the last of the W202 series. There is precious little difference between the 1994 model and your 2000 model. Your car was designed and first production built over 13 years ago. On top of that, MB built about 5 million C Classes.

It was replaced by the W203 and more recently by the W204. Your car's value is very low now (2,100-2,700 quid) and when you go to sell it, it will be worth diddley-squat, FMBSH or not.

Get your car serviced by an independent or DIY and save the difference in service costs (delsilva says the B service costs about 20% of the present value of your car). When you sell the car, total up the service savings and add that to the sale price if you think it will help.

Just enjoy the many pleasurable miles it will give you!

Your car is worth more than £2700, especially being one of the last with low mileage.

A friend of mine has been looking for one, and everything below £3500 has had high mileage, poorly maintained and generally rubbish.

Agree that the W202 has dropped in value since the appearance of the w204, but good examples are hard to find for ery low money.

It all depends on what you want out of it.

I think OzC36 is pretty blunt, but quite correct with the facts.

I'm sure it's every bit your pride and joy, but it is a seven year old fairy basic W202, I doubt that future resale value will be greatly influenced by whether the service history is full MB or not (especially with the 2 1/2 year gap).

Mobilo claims are pretty hit and miss anyway, plus I think your car has already breached the terms of the scheme (2 years maximum between services). You also need to have owned the vehicle for a minimum of six months (IIRC) for any claim to be considered.

So, I would seek out a good independant/specialist to do the work, put the money saved towards any bodywork that you wish to have done and enjoy the car

Good luck :)

thanks guys for the advice,
i think ill still to a specialist for now and get them to look over the whole car, and if they can stamp the book all good if not, well its been a 2 years gap anyway even though its only done about 2000miles in those 2 years.

are there any good indie's in nw london? any idea how much a service would cost for an a or b service??

what do you think needs to be done, im gonna try contact the MB dealer that done the last service and find out what was done at 61k, cv's, brakes, etc etc

Don't know where abouts in NW London you are, but there's George Fraser in Alperton. Probably not the cheapest, but for a routine service and inspection I'd think that he'll be ok.

There's bound to be others, try a quick search in the specialists section :)

My apologies for being blunt.

We all love our cars, but sometimes it is also smart to know when and how much money to pour down a black hole. I am as guilty as everyone else for spending money on my C36 which might be hard to justify in the cold light of day.

BTW, I took the valuation figures from Glasses in BTB 500's link in thread "Used Car Values":

Sorry....I didnt realise it was a c200 - in that case, forget about the Merecedes service and go for an independant.

The bootlock rust can be sorted for about £250 from a decent bodyshop.
