01 w210 e320 cdi nightmare

It would be worth checking the MAP sensor as that could cause spurious readings of boost.

If you can either measure live data via the Diag socket, or fit a boost gauge to see what's happening.

Strange as it may sound. I spoke to someone about it and the fix was to change the transmission oil. The symptom was like having the turbo valve stuck and the car losing massive amounts of power and surging.

got a good drive in two cars identicle to mine over the last couple of nights and i wish i hadnt bothered.they were both far less powerful than mine.but both were a nicer drive.first thing i noticed was the accelerator pedal put me in total control of the speed i wanted to go.whereas mine tends to fly off at the slightest touch.also the gear changes were smoother than mine.also the turbo whistle got louder as you accelerated which isnt always the case with mine.sometimes mine whistles when you accelerate but seems to dissappear and raw power takes over.at other times it whistles away but the power doesnt kick in.also even though both cars were quick when floored,at no time was i pushed into my seat unlike my car which sometimes feels like its gonna take off.all in all they both felt like the power was being distributed more evenly over the power range.so after all that hassle i now think i might still have multiple problems.either that or one problem which is causing everything to go out of sync.everything just doesnt seem to flow as it should.i definatley think there is a blockage somewhere which frees up now and again and i suspect a remap aswell.my heart is broke.

the more i read up on similar problems to mine, and the more i think about this, i am becoming convinced that my car has indeed been remapped which is where the extra power is coming from.i am also convinced that the intermittent problems are vacumm related.theres no getting away from the fact that the two new boost valves made the car run perfect for 2 days.(something that never happened before).that would surely not have happened if the cat was blocked or the remap was failing.does anyone agree with this and if so where should i start?dieselman i have to assume that the indy that replaced my intake manifold motor would have checked that the manifold flaps were working correctly, otherwise why bother fitting the motor?im gonna get indy to remove and clean egr valve as i suspect it might be the main culpret.after that whats next on the list?surely taking the turbo apart to check it is a big job.there must be other things to check before we get to that stage.dont forget im not a mechanic.and with regards to the post about changing the transmission oil,the gearbox was serviced 3 months ago because of the gear flaring so thats unlikely.the flaring is obviously down to the power issue.listen to me,you would think i knew what i was on about

I knew it was a badly done remap from your first post :p

worth getting the car done properly!!

just been reading the threads above, have you checked the accelerator pedal to see if a sprintbooster is fitted? my friends c class sprintbooster played up last year and gave the same symptons as described above, we removed it and the car went back to normal acceleration, when it was reconnected it surged and jumped about like a cat on hot bricks, returned the unit to sprintbooster and got a new one free? problem went away with new unit?

On a w210 if you got a sprintbooster fitted you dont need to check the pedals just pop up the bonnet and see near the brake fluid if a sprint booster connected to the throttle cable!

We don't know that it is yet. ;)

Get the car ECU flashed with the latest MB map and see if it fixes it.

I know that :p

yeah ecu flash and upload the lates MB map should do the trick I reckon but if it's been remaped he will reliese that the car is abit slow and he will want to remap the damn thing properly lol. Whats the milage on the car btw?

good luck anyway!

car has 139,000 miles on it now.110,000 miles when i bought it 6 months ago.its going on monday to have the ecu tested and restored to original settings if needs be.im using a ecu specialist company who say they will know if the car has been remapped.£30 for diagnostic and £115 to restore it if neccessary.so fingers crossed.as far as latest mercedes software update is concerned,is that a dealer job?its just that there is only one dealer in n.ireland and unless your in a new car that you bought from them, they treat you like a piece of ****.i still wanna know why the new boost valves made the car go perfect for 2 days though.can anyone shine any light on that?we cant ignore this fact

Hi to all ,

We may be of assistance and have a solution for you !

Please conatact us on ************* .... we can dyno and check software also re flash with latest merc update ...

Regards Gary

got the ecu checked today.its working properly and the car has not been remapped.so its boiling down to the question of what can cause this car to sometimes underboost and sometimes overboost.i assume egr and intake manifold can be ruled out as they probably woudlnt cause overboost.so i guess that leaves the turbo.is the turbo problem you mentioned in your previous post a specialist job or should my merc indy be able to do it.

The vacuum capsule pulls on a linkage attached to the 'vane ring'. This in turn pulls the internal vanes either open or closed to redirect the airflow towards the turbine, either faster or slower.

I suspect either the actuator shaft, vane ring or vanes are jammed causing spurious alignment, hence inappropriate turbo boost, either too high or too low.

I would expect your Indie would be able to do this job as a turbo is a pretty simple device.

Free off the shaft with high temperature lube and clean out the vanes and vane ring with a decoke agent (possibly oven cleaner).
A strong dose of injector cleaner may free off the stuck vanes.

VNT turbo.

would this problem cause the gearbox to be a bit erratic aswell?ie:quick changes, slow changes or the odd flare.i used to get a lot of gear flaring or long drawn out changes but the new boost valves helped this dramaticaly.still not perfect though.

used to use autobenz until it was taken over a couple of years ago.when i bought this motor i started using murray motors at dunmurray but after a couple of weeks i switched to merctech at kennedy way ind est.phillp has a very good rep and he has been more than decent with me.my motor has been on his diagnostics nearly every week for last few months and he never asked me for a washer.mind you he knows he will make money from me(he has already)me and the missus both drive mercs and we are both taxi drivers so theres always something going wrong.seems you cant work on these cars without a star diagnostic machine.what about yourself?i noticed ur from belfast.

Yep, and there's a Merctech sticker under the bonnet, so must pay them a visit myself. Ta.

was speaking to indy today.hes gonna take turbo out on monday to check it.he was talking about some rod that moves might be sticking or something like that, but he didnt sound too confident about it fixing my problem.he seems to be edgeing towards a gearbox problem.but i dont agree with him.i have hardly had a flare since the boost valves were replaced and all my previous problems with gear flaring or slow changes(which i assume is pretty much the opposite of flaring)only happened when you were driving normally.it never happened when you gave it any decent acceleration.it does seem to lose a little power at the gear change making it not just as smooth as it should be but im convinced its because the power is just not flowing properly.thats the way it feels anyway.it definately feels like a blockage of some sort.and the star checked the gearbox and found no faults.mind you its not finding any power faults either.what do you think?
