Have you tried undoing it all then redoing the load cover and closing the boot lid? If the load coevr is at all seated incorrectly it wont make the necessary connection to allow the hood to go down
Another thing to try is pushing sharp and hard down on the boot lid. I find mine sometimes sticks, and I can't open the boot withut pushing it down hard first, and it once stopped my hood going back up. I'lll get them to look at it when it goes in.

I don't know about the CLK - but on the SLK the load cover is pulled across the boot via a handle that's in the middle of the cover and fits into place. But this is obviously diff to the CLK.
Looking at this it's not clear if there is a load cover at all on the CLK.
