05 C class leather isn't comfy

I got what I thought a good drive beforehand but you're watching and listening for other stuff and wasn't concentrating on the seats at the time, it's using it daily after buying that I felt it.

I know it's but it's the other one I've got

I guess the C is more the equivalent to the 3 ser

The C is most certainly the MB rival to the 3 Series in terms of size, pricing, market position etc. How tall are you? I ask because I am 6 foot 3" and find it difficult to get comfortable in most cars but the W211 is the exception (my Saab 9-5 of several years ago was equally good)

If you want to be comfortable in your Merc then you need to pay for ‘comfort seats’.

I've always thought it incredible that MB offers Comfort seats as an option.

Imagine if the standard spec said "Seats: Uncomfortable".

I’ve posted this before.

A couple of years ago my sister was looking for a new car. They wanted a Mercedes and was going through the options list with the dealer and she was ticking off this and that until they got to comfort seats. My sister asked that if she didn’t tick for them, would it mean the car coming with uncomfortable seats?? From reading the OP, it appears she may have been right.

She got a Volvo XC60 instead.

Comfort probably means they have extra adjustments or are somehow softer. It's so subjective though. Some seats feel super soft & comfy at first but then kill your back on long drives (and vice versa).

Quite so, I find most cars seat squabs are too short so your thighs are not supported which is very uncomfortable on a long journey

Some leather products are made of scrap leather glued together . Think of it like scrap steak meat minced and then stuck together, it's still steak meat but not quite what you expected.

Comfort is totally subjective.....

Padded covers are the only option for me just now

Or I use the golf

Cost cutting from makers again eh and leading buyers into false information thinking they're getting proper leather when they're not. I know it's not just Merc, they're probably all at it using whatever fancy names they'll get away with.

It was a couple of days after I got it and not even doing a lot of miles and thought I'm not very comfy and was moving about. I then thought some poor bugger paid £35ish 000 -/+ for this in 05 thinking they've got a nice comfy cruiser, wrong!.......well maybe to some but most I don't know so.

As I said above, if I'm keeping it (and really don't know as the 530d is better) there will be cloth seats put in or some kind of proper leather padded cover put in. I had a 99 C 280 sport about 14 years ago and don't remember the seats as hard ect as this...it's a backward step for Merc.

14 years is a long long time, it's probably you that has changed, your expectations, what you feel is comfortable etc.

14 years ago I thought MK1 Mondeo's were cool :)

Mercedes refer to Artico as 'man-made leather', which makes it quite clear what it is.

The problem is that many dealers just advertise the car as having 'leather seats', either because they are dishonest, or because they have no idea what Artico is...

For example:

At the top it just says 'Leather'... then at the bottom it says 'Artico leather'... so unless you know that Artico is plastic (and most people would have never heard of Artico before), you might think it's a fancy type leather, perhpas like 'Napa leather'.

It is naughty for MB to use the term leather to describe Artico seat covering and I've seen lots of examples where dealers, usually non MB, describe cars with Artico as being leather.

Ours current car has Artico, though we knew it was not natural leather ahead of time. They are really comfortable.

Our previous car was a C220d Coupe (C204) AMG Sport. Loved the seats in that, they had Dynamica/Alcantara panels and Artico bolsters. The base was long enough for good support too. At the time I'd already driven the W204 and S204 in AMG Sport trim level and did not like the seats. Too short, too flat and too wide for us. But then we were coming from an R171 SLK. The seats in that were leather and for us, very comfortable.
