With new diz cap and rotor all was fine....Then it just stopped and now just churns without trying at all. A.A. (oh the shame!) came, sparking fine but no fuel getting through, his opinion was that it was more than likely the fuel relay.
OK so can anybody tell me where this relay is situated (1992 car). Also ANY help or suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks in advance, Peter.

Turn the ignition on without cranking the engine. Is there a buzz from the rear? If so the pump is working. If not could be fuel pump relay - I think its in or under the fuse box - OVP relay - behind the battery - or the pump itself.

@GP801, There is a 1-2 second buzz when ignition switch is first turned on, fuel filter is recent. Something I did notice though, in the relay box that is just behind the fusebox is a fairly big relay # 201 821 00 47, this is buzzing with the ignition on, though it should be just another problem (I think its an indicator relay) could this be related?

That would suggest the pump and electrics are fine. I think you will have 2 fuel pumps (ours does) but I am not sure if both need to work for the car to start. Dont think a relay should buzz but may not be related to this problem. I think you need someone more knowledgeable to help you. Sorry

The fuel pump relay is behind the battery, under the black plastic shroud. It is about the size of a fag packet, looks like the picture below.

Are the fuel pumps running when you try to crank the engine? As they run for a second when you put the ignition on, this rules out the pumps or the wiring being faulty.

The 201 part is the flasher relay , also heated rear window IIRC .

The FPR , from memory , on a W124 is to the rear of the battery - you will see a black plastic cover going from below the bottom of the windscreen to level with the battery tray , pull this out and you should see a few modules in there , FPR is about the size of a cigarette pack and usually has Kickdown or similar printed on top .

If you find this , pry off the plastic cover and inspect the circuit boards for bad contacts where pins are soldered through , if you can solder it is a simple job to re solder , otherwise find a friend who can do it for you - this is usually all that is wrong .

I take it that the relay on the left is the suspect one. What is the other for?

" Klima" should give you a clue--- its for the air con compressor. The FPR is deffo the best bet -its 2 stage the pump may run initially on switch on but will then stop till it gets a further signal that the engine is turning/car is moving when it will supply the pump again. This is a safety feature to prevent the pump supplying fuel to an engine that isn't running.

That's a point, on K Jetronic isn't there a wire from the coil which gives an 'engine running' signal allowing the fuel pump to run? I heard about a Volvo on which this wire had broken - it just wouldn't start.............

OK. Replaced the FPR. Still nothing. Are there any Indies or mobiles in the Durham area that someone can recomend? I really am now getting depressed.
