Hi,
I'm currently trying to renovate the self leveling system on my 124 280TE. I've changed the tandem pump, which was leaky, only to discover the pipes are corroded and also leaking at the self leveling valve. I'm seeking to replace both pipes (send and return/pump reservoir) but can only get hold of the return (124 320 5172 64) from Mercedes. Does anybody know a part number for the send that might not be from a 280 TE? The pipe will probably have to be cut to good so I'm only interested in getting some pipe but with the correct pipe union. I would duplicate the pipe I already have but understand that they are different sizes.
Phew - got there in the end!!
Cheers

Go to a local hydraulics supplier, they will have the connectors and pipe in stock and will bend the pipe for you if you take the old on with you.

For the pipe from the pump to the self levelling valve, there will be a joint between the flexi-pipe and the rigid pipe. If the flexi looks to be in good condition, I would be tempted to join the pipe just downstream of there, using either a compression fitting, or a Swagelock fitting.

If the flexi isn't in good nick, then, by taking the old pipe into the hydraulics supplier, they will be able to help you find a workable equivalent.

As the return pipe is clamped to the body for all of its run, there's no need for any flexi section.

You'll probably need some pipe bending / forming tools, because I don't think that even the standard pipe from MB will come ready formed.

Thanks Dieselman and NC,
I've had a good look under today and it's clear the part I've ordered in hand with MB is not correct. There is a hexagonal swagelok joint on the return at floor level at the back of the engine. The send pipe connects with a rubber hose, in good condition, under the front off side of the engine. All I really require to do the job are two 4m lengths of 6mm pipe with a 12mm pipe connector crimped at each end. Connections with the pipe connectors to SLV are proving stubborn to shift however!! Is it possible to bend 6mm steel pipe with normal brake pipe bending kit?
Cheers
Alastair
