why not cut the tomtom cable (or buy an additional cable to do this) and hard wire it to 12v ignition/live and then have it popping out from the windscreen ready to plug the TT into.
Just before you do that, remember that most of those 12v cigarette lighter plugs have a fuse built in (accessible by unscrewing the end), so if you cut it off you are without safety fuse.
I hard-wired in SWMBO tomtom into her Alfa yesterday.
I simply spliced into the cabling at the rear of the cigarette lighter which works off ignition and then routed the new cable through to the inside fusebox which is inside the dash behind a "door". this is a large space where I connected these new 12v wires up to the existing TomTom cigarette ligther plug, wrapped the whole thing in insulation tape and then the tomtom cable is routed up the dash, along the windscreen and into the device. So no cutting required. The live wire was inserted into the tomtom plug by unscrewing the tip of the cig lighter plug, and then screwing it back on with the wire on - then insulated. the negative wire was wrapped around one of the side terminals and insulated. Quick and easy, bit of a bodge on the connection side but who cares and it works, and cost £0 & leaves the cig lighter free for other accessories.
I bought a two port extension lead, cut the plug off and wired it in to the back of the Cig socket, then hid it under the dash, so I can plug the TomTom in out of site, plus something else. The double socket I bought had a mounting plate, so it was easy to fix it up out of site.
