Hi

The 12V socket is not powering either a mobile charger nor DVD player chargers - when it used to - so I am guessing its the car.

So, after finding the correct fuse (from a quaint piece of paper in a fuse box) replacing a "15" fuse with one from the spares which have never been opened, so I suspect are okay, and still not having power, what else could it be?

I have seen a few threads suggesting a new socket itself, but I wondered if the all knowing forum had any other suggestions first.

the connector at the base doesn't look out of place but...
It doesn't look dirty in there, but will put air through it tomorrow though...

Any other suggestions - else I will have to take the Zafira to Devon tomorrow:( (as the kids must have their DVD's playing to save my sanity)

Unplug the socket and check for voltage across the two pins in the plug , this will determan weahter its the socket or a problem with the car

Sounds odd if it doesn't work after replacing the fuse (are you sure it was the correct fuse) and turning ignition on. I would use a multimeter to test if it has power (like above, could use a different ground point too to be sure the ground wire is not the issue).

cheers

Meter being applied next to see if that helps point in the direction of problem

Not sure if fuse boxes will be the same as the C saloon, but on my old car the fuse was inside the bonnet, near the drivers windscreen, under a box accessed either by torx screws or allen keys. Even the MB technician was surprised. I found the little diagram very hard to follow.

Hope that might help.

need to replace 12V socket

Okay

Its deader than a Norwegian Blue

The springy thingy that helps secure the male end of a charger is loose (tweezers got it out) so it looks like I need a new socket

Couple of questions (I have browsed but not found answers)

What's the best approach - Do I need to take the surrounding black plastic cover off, or can I prise it out (with a screwdriver perhaps)? How do I do this or is this a garage job as I am not great with being careful...

Is it a specific part and is there a better one (the socket in the newer Zafira looks a more robust offering, so are there newer solutions or do I have to replace LFL)

PS - 2004 53 reg pre facelift C coupe

Assistance and advice appreciated as ever

If I recall in the C-Class there is more than 1 fuse for the cigar lighter (may be thinking of my E-class though) Under bonnet, by drivers seat and in the boot. Pretty sure I posted about it so worth doing a seearch

W211 12v socket in the front compartment has the fuse in the collection under the bonnet, but for the socket in the rear the fuse is in the end compartment on the dashboard. I had the same problem but found the solution from an old post on this forum.

Regards

Richard

Fuse 'boxes', yes there are three, but I located the correct fuse (under the bonnet), changed that then the spring/clip fell off, so i guess its the socket itself.

Having a go next weekend when I buy a replacement from MB and work up the confidence.....
