17” wheels to 19” can it be done ?

I do like to max out tyre width size , this gives you both better kerb protection and a bit more warning what the car is doing as the tyre moves about a bit more .

Narrow to wheel with skinny profile do have higher outright cornering speeds but can break away with less warning , aren't as progressive in feel .

I've 235 45 17 on 7.5J on another car , std size for that wheel .

So 'moving about a bit' on a higher profile isn't such a bad thing?

I'm curious as to what to expect when I change cars soon and go from 50 profile to 65 (245/65 - 17). Given the current obsession for 30 and 35s, I'm wondering if I'll get round any corners or I'm destined to travel in a straight line until I meet the coast.

That's pretty tall but comfy .

Always thought the 245 45 18 looked tall for a Nissan 350Z when they came out .

Good evening - I’m a New Member and first MB I’ve owned. Had some 19” wheels put on today and the rears are scraping the arches with no other weight in the car than me. Now I’ve got them is there something I can do to raise the rear end ? Or other ideas would be welcome. TIA (not sure how to attach photo )

Welcome, you don't say what Mercedes you've got, most Mercs will easily fit 19s, so if yours are catching, you may have the wrong offset or wrong tyres for your particular car.

Thanks for replying - 2014 C220 AMG Sport edition W204 - Auto. I read several posts on here beforehand so went for 235/35/19 and 255/30/19 Tyres on Ikon rims which have a 35 offset. If I change the rear coil springs to non-sport will this give me more height ?

Staggered 8.5j front and 9.5j rear

I've done some checking, and it seems the offset could be the problem, ET45 is recommended for your car you've got ET35 that's 10mm more stuck out, hence catching your arches.

Welcome to MBClub, sorry to hear about the wheels.

Changing the springs might work but it’s a bit of a gamble, I suspect the wheels will still catch but just less often. Can you tel where they’re catching, is it the wheel arch or on the suspension?

Ok, thanks for checking. So apart from changing the wheels is there an alternative spring option ? (15-20mm taller maybe) or will that not work ? Any advice apart from a wheel change will be welcome

ET45 is for the fronts on a W204. They should be ET54 on the rear so no wonder its rubbing. Its 20mm closer to the wheelarch than it should be.

I don't see a change of spring solving that sorry to say.

If you're stuck with the wheels, a good solution might be to have the wheel arches rolled (Google it!).

This will increase the clearance in the inner arch and you might get away with no other mods.
