Hello folks,

I've just bought a 190e 2.0l. Am i right in thinking that this engine has a timeing chain instead of a belt?? ifso at what milage does it need changing??

Thanks, Stu. :)

Hi Stu and welcome to the forum, yes a 190 does have a timing chain. When I had a 190 I changed the chain at 130,000 miles or thereabouts. Depends really, if its noisy then change it, but examine the sprocket on the cam as well, look for worn teeth. Dont forget to remove the tensioner before splitting the chain otherwise its going to end in tears

Hi ian, thanks for the welcome and the info :) The car has only just turned 100.000 miles and has a very good service history, so should be ok for a good few miles yet :)

Thanks, stu

Hi Stu
My dad has a 190E '92 with 260K miles and still going strong on the orginal timing chain.
Not sure I would let it go that far. I think you have little to worry about for now,
so enjoy!
Owen

Hi Owen,

260k on one chain  Now that is impresive :D

I think il stop worrying about mine!!!!! :D :D

cheers,Stu.

My 2 litre's done just over 140k on the original timing chain and it's all still running smoothly :)
