Middle box has gone on my Cosworth, wife took it shopping and caught it on a speed bump/small mountain. From Merc i can get one for £130+vat, a pattern part would be £115+vat. Before i go for a standard replacement part, could anyone tell me who does aftermarket ones as its possibly a good time to change the whole system in one go rather than wait for the back box to give up the ghost in 2 weeks time (sods law and all that..).

Don't want anything loud, just something slightly more tuneful than standard and hopefully better flowing!

Dont know if its any use to you but I have a complete system (non cat) from a 2.6 190E. Not new but still has the paper stickers on it, hardly been used. Its a Walker system.

I would definately go for the genuine Merc part over the pattern part, especially if the difference is only £15!

At least the genunine article will "mate" with your front and rear sections without any trouble, providing they're original as well.

Don't forget to buy a fitting kit at the same time - rubbers, bolts etc., etc.

If you do plan to do this job yourself, there's a sleeve fitting between the centre and rear sections and this can seize solid! I had to cut a slot with an angle grinder (on my 2.3 Cosworth) before it would come off! Replacing the centre and rear sections at the same time would obviously overcome this problem and possibly save loads of time/effort also.

Stainless steel is always a good alternative but custom made items can be a little dear??

Have a look at the link below. Don't know if they're any good or not though.
