My G/F wants to change out the gear knob on her 190E (1992 model) can anyone give some advice on whats on offer as an after market modification?

Need to check with V12, but I discovered that the 201 uses the same shift mechanism/levers as the early 202, this was partially updated in 1995 and then properly updated a little later, but it does mean that with some fiddling you can fit the intermediate-lever-bar from the mid-production 202 and then fit the replaceable shift-knobs from 1996ish onwards to 2004 (last car to use that type is probably the R170).

The bar is about £15-20, there are a couple of nuts/bolts/screws/washers etc that come to a few pennies and then the standard knobs are £30+ brand new (up to nearly £200 for designo twin-tone leather or special wood type!), cheaper alternatives are available from aftermarket and ebay for second hand oem bits etc.

Might as well give yourself more choice, and it'd be an oem mod to be proud of! I will try to find out as much as I can about this mod, it'd be a gem for anyone with 124/126/140/201 models.

errr.... manual or auto?

Errr oops, I assumed auto! Normally a safe assumption but I suppose a lot of 190Es were manual!

I think there is a sportline one on ebay at the moment.

This is the one I was thinking about but on closer inspection it looks crap :( gear knob
