I originally posted this in the members gallery forum but then noticed that you cant post replies so I have posted it here also so I can post replies and anyone can comment. Thanks.

After 6 years of searching for the right one and travelling everywhere i have finally found what I was looking for.

A 300SL Gullwing made in 1954 currently sitting in a derelict garage in Indonesia. Came back last week after doing the deal and expecting the container in about 6 weeks. I am absolutely over joyed and I now have years of restoration to look forward to. The best part of this is the price; $7000. It is in a very serious state of disrepair but I have found many suppliers and people all over the world who will help make and supply parts.

I intent to restore it back to exactly what it would have looked like when it left the factory. Silver bodywork with red leather interior.

I will try and post pictures on here during the course of this project so everyone can enjoy this with me.

Wish me luck!

Spam Spam Spam

Because there is a picture of one of these cars in a state of disrepair that does the rounds every so often.

The car would be worth £200k+ (?) and this guy says he is getting it soooo cheap.

There is the hook.

Contact at your peril!!!!

This scam perhaps?

I do hope MarkS isn't the victim of a dirty scam here.

Here is an example of a scam ad

Why spam?

If Swiss Toni says its spam then as far as I'm concerned it's tinned ham. (spam)

No, he isn't.

He has "just come back" from doing the deal.

He isn't the victim, he is trying to hook a buyer....

Does seem very co-incidental, but I suppose we do need to be a little careful with what we accuse people of. I'm sure if he had been scouring the globe for the past six years to find a gulwing, he would have posted on here before now "just in case" someone knew where one was that he could purchase.

I guess if we all remember the old addages "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" and "A fool and his money are soon parted", hopefully none of us on here will get pulled in with a potential scam.

Caveat Emptor. :(

Can a moderator please put him on a 'Watch list'? $7,000 is just a come on.
And it's his only post.

Well Spotted

Nice one Swiss.

I was a bit suspicious when I read the price (generally being known as a cynical bar steward) but well done for making the connection and alerting us.

It was clearly a mistake posting a comment on this forum, it appears that everyone is making accusations about me. I can assure you this is no scam. I have purchased the car myself and this is not a pathetic attempt to draw people into handing over money.

For your information, i have been looking for this project for 6 years and, yes, the price is cheap but considering I have seen around a dozen in various states of disrepair, it is not too cheap. The one in the photograph you have put a link to is in a much better state than mine. I went to Cuba and saw 2 one of which was $10,000 and another which was £86,000 so the prices vary greatly. Considering this one has no interior and the bodywork is extremely poor, the price is reasonabe. £200k + is ridiculous and Im the considering Im one who has been researching this for 6 years, I think I may know a little more about this subject.

I had been to indonesia several times and seen the car myself, I have been involved in this transaction for weeks.

How disappointing it is to discover this forum and find its full of cynical people who are quick to make accusations, who have actually got their facts wrong. I will not be using it again.

A quick google for 300SL Gullwings from Indonesia seems to reveal dozens of them for sale. It gives the impression that every tom **** and harry must be driving them over there!

Why does that not surprise me?

I would like to take this opportunity to unreservedly appologise for suggesting that you were a scammer and that you were simply trying to hook someone.

It seems you have found the "barnfind" Gullwing and in no way are you a scammer.

I have pm'd you my email address - please forward a picture of your find and I will post it here and in the gallery.

Honest.

:D

Swiss Toni, have you found something out some confirmed facts on this person/car, or are you just playing safe?

It's his outraged innocence too - dead giveaway of the seasoned scoundrel!
Do you think this 'car' will turn up on eBay? :)
