- This and that.
Well all I can say is that if you really have bought this car, then you've done your money.
You should know the costs of restoring a 300SL, and if so, you'll know that $7,000 for a basket case is a false economy. At that price, the spaceframe will need completely rebuilding, which means you haven't actually bought anything.
I don't understand why you would have turned down a $10k car in Cuba. You can't realistically have expected to find one cheaper elsewhere. If this Indonesian owner was actually prepared to sell for $7,000 then you can be sure that enough of it has already been sold elsewhere for a clone to be built. Owners know what these cars are worth, and at the dross end of the market, thier opinions are highly inflated.
If you really have the budget to restore one of these (and your referral to having found people all over the world to help make bits suggests you don't), then six years searching to spend $7,000 just doesn't make sense.
I'll not put my hat in the microwave just yet, but I'm fully prepared to eat it in umpteen years' time when you finish your restoration.
