Hello, and thanks in advance for any advice given.
I have a 1992 230 CE which has a non working drivers side rear window; I have removed the panel before, tried testing switch and motor by connecting a direct current. Motor appears to have come to the end of its service life.
Obviously with the regulator frame and glass still in the car it's not the most accessible of fiddly jobs.
My question is if I buy a good used motor, is it possibly to just fit the motor body to the regulator without disturbing it from the whole unit ? By that, I mean undo the 2 screws that I can see, and lift the metal motor body part from the unit, then slip the replacement body and windings into the present motor body ? If I could do it all in place without having to pull the lot out, that would encourage me to have 4 working windows again !
I hope this makes sense ! Also, would a 190 rear motor, or any other 124 Brose motor body be interchangeable ? If I can't make one motor out of two without removing from the car, will locate a complete used unit, but would rather have a hour job, than a 3 hour !

There is a Convenience Control unit, it may be located under rear seat, with all its plugs still connected, open up the unit you will see 8 relays, 4 to raise each window and 4 to lower each window, you could manually close the points on a relay with your finger, depending which relay you operate, the window will either close or open, ignition may need to be on.

If the faulty window works, up and down, then the motor may not be faulty, worth trying this first.

Cleaning the points, above, may well solve the problem.
You will need trial and error to find which relay does which windows up and down.
Operating the window switches will click each relay and will identify which relay belongs to which window.

You will need to clean at the Green arrow as well as the Red arrow (points gap)

Failing the above, if you had enough space to undo the 3 bolts, below, that attach the motor to the lifting mechanism then you could remove the whole motor but I doubt you would have enough space to do this.

Making one motor out of two halve motors is possible but the faulty part might not be the part that you replace.

W140 i dont think you can just remove the motor. Did you put 12 volts to the the motor whene it is in the door [winder motor] .Its not a hard job to remove the regulator . I used my camera as i went through the stages .just scotch the window glass in the up possition with a piece of wood so it wont fall down..Its hard to tell you how as i dont know about your model. But i visited Youtube and found video on the removal of regulator. You will find a lot of videos on this. Also you can try Peach parts, lots of help on there.

I had connected the motor to a 12V supply directly, but the motor didn't respond; yes, I have heard the relays clicking somewhere under the rear seat of the car also, so I suppose from what kind advice I have been given, I will have to have the regulator out, and fit a replacement motor. I think I will wait until the warmer weather for this task, but that gives me time to source the parts and then enjoy 4 fully functioning windows again. Thank you once again
