hi all!
i have a 93 sl300 manual.
have been giving serious thought to converting to 3.6amg running gear.
i am in the trade but cant find anyone that has done this.
does anyone have any info on this conversion? and would like to ask about performance figuers! and is it really worth the effert
 ...
thanks guys A&E.

Probably not worth the effort unless you love the straight six engine. A 500 will still be quicker. An SL32 with the supercharged V6 would be a better idea!

AMG made a one-off SL36 AMG - whether that tells you something I don't know.

Its certainly possible - but you are going to need most of the underbonnet of a C36/E36 to achieve it. I have a 1987 3.2 M104 190E so a full M104 conversion is certainly possible - It just not easy.
You will be converting from KJet to Full Efi as well, so there are the implications with the wiring looms on the M104 engines to take into consideration as well. You will need to fit all the ECU's and if you use a later E36 you will also have Drive Authorisation (ECU coded immobiliser) to contend with.

After the weekend in mine I am very seriously considering a turbo conversion and fittign the same turbo kit as I have for the 190 to the SL :D
This will give more power from a 12v 3.0 than the 3.6 AMG but still give better than 3.0 12v fuel economy.
