Wonder if any one can help?

The car was recentley involved in a accident and the fan belt pulley is now grinding against the crankshaft pulley. As there is no drive belt on I am having difficulties removing the fan belt pulley. When I am trying to unbolt the hexagon shaped bolt on the fan the pulley behind it also spins?

Which way do you unbolt it? (I am unbolting it anti clockwise)

Also when the pulley does eventually comes off what way does the belt go on? seems too long for the car?

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Ivan.

allen key lock

Sounds as if your waterpump is damaged. there is a hole in rear of the pulley and a notch in the pump casing. Use that to lock the pulley with a suitable allen key. you might get more room if you remove the plastic fan from the viscous coupling first. you are talking about the water pump and not the belt tensioner right??

I changed the water pump on my E220. The hex nut behind the fan is a left hand thread. Bloody tight too.

The water pump is nothing to do with the fan on the 320.

You need a rod bent at approx 90% and slip it into the recess at the rear of the fan pulley which you must align with the recess on the engine.
The rod will then lock the pulley and you can take the bolt off.

For better access you can indeed take the fan off seperately first without locking, by just holding with your hand, and unbolting the 4 smaller bolts.

Hope this helps.
