Car
E320 Cabriolet, Honda VFR 800 - both red!
Both ABS and ASR lights on our 1996 W124 E320 came on simultaneously and permanently recently - independent MB specialist saying very expensive control unit (£1200) needs replacing - and it's a very rare fault.

Anyone had similar experience? - or cheaper diagnosis!
Thoughts gratefully received...

Only the computer readout will show what the fault is. Get a second opinion before you part with the money.

Wifey's W202 had ABS/ASR lights on intermittantly when we bought it.
Garage said it was due to the car being steam cleaned. It dried out a week later.

Has yours had a steam clean recently ? Could it be moisture from another source ?

when this happened on my W202, it was a brake switch .. and the cruise control stopped working as well

sorry its not for the 320 but its the same procedure and if you look at the last page on the second link it says if it has ASR to refer it to the dealer for "bleeding" it doesn't mention you need to change the computer ( air in system ) probably but then Mb would go for the most expensive component wouldn't they, i would have it properly checked some where else as stated by another member, you cant guess these things

I have had this x 3 fault ABS, BAS, ESP - visit workshop ( cruise control does not work when these faults are on) and they have cleared after ignition off and on again. It has happened 3 times in the last 6 weeks.

These faults also come up after the battery has been disconnected and in the handbook to clear the ESP you have to turn the steering from lock to lock.

I have been told this is either a signal fault at a wheel speed transducer or a box on the way out.

Am going to check the wheel sensors but unless anyone has any other ideas It will no doubt be in the 'dealer fault bank' at the next input.
