1999 ML 320
Hi Guys,

I just purchased a 1999 Ml and the key fob doesn't work. I've replaced batteries and tried to resync the fob to the car but its not happening. The relay to the alarm has been removed. If i replace relay alarm goes off and i can't turn it off. Any ideas why or what to do?

Can i wire an after market central locking kit in so i can use a fob to open the car instead of having to put the key in. If so could someone give me a wiring diagram and tell me where the central locking module/box is please.

Many thanks

Dee :)

How many times do the hazard light flash when you lock and how many times do the flash when you unlock?
How many buttons on the remote?
It would be better to fix what you have rather than fitting a new central locking control system.

I take it that the key works the igniton?
Where abouts are you located ? sounds like a trip to a good Indie.

Hi, yes key works in ignition. Car starts and drives fine i just have no central locking on key fob. When i unlock the car it only opens the one door too. I'm in essex near Harlow.

Thanks will have a look at that link.

When you press the unlock button on the remote, ONCE, only the drivers door and fuel flap will unlock, when you press the unlock button a SECOND time, all doors unlock.

Does the above solve the problem and do all doors lock when you press the lock button on the remote?

See page 27 here … http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalAssets/pdfmb/ownersmanual/2000_m320_m430_55amg.pdf

Test your car alarm to see/hear if it is working properly, see here… http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/169666-w202-how-test-car-alarm.html

The key fob doesn't do anything. No matter how many times i press it. The car will only open when i out the key in the lock, it only opens the drivers door and i have to press the unlock buttom on centre console to open the rest of the car.

The relay for the alarm has been removed and if i put one in its place the alarm just goes off and i have no way to disarm it.

I have no idea what or why they have done it.

Hold the remote fob about 2mm from the sensor on the door handle and try the lock or unlock button.

I don’t think the alarm has a relay, if the above doesn’t work, locate and unplug the alarm siren, it should be located at the bottom of windscreen under bonnet. Looks something like this here… Search hood - 2198203226 - Alarm Siren - ES#1779675 …. It has a 3 pin plug on the back of it, just pull the plug out.

Can you describe this alarm relay that you unplugged?

Edit; Locking the drivers door with the metal key blade just unlocks that door, the metal key blade is for emergency locking only, it doesn’t operate the central locking or disarm the alarm it just unlocks/locks the drivers door.

Sounds like your AAM module my be faulty .
The unit controls many functions including the remote locking . The remote locking part can fail , it was failed on my ML and I had similar problems to you .
This unit can be changed easily on later models the used DAS 2 , earlier models had the AAM unit tied into the cars immobiliser .The change over was in 99 so your car could be either .
I was able to replace mine with a second hand unit and re-sync the key using STAR .
