Hello all

I recently bought a SL320 that I was asking for pre-purchase advice in an earlier thread. All is going well and I'm mostly delighted with the car, with just a couple of minor issues needing sorting.

One question the specialist wasn't able to answer was how to deactivate the motion sensors, for when the dog is left in the car. The car is fitted with the standard period Mercedes alarm. According to the supplied manual there is a LED/switch on the drivers door pillar that when pushed disables the motion sensors. I have found the LED/switch, however it doesn't seem to push in, but flips left/right. Neither position affects the motion sensor operation.

Has anyone got any clues how I deactivate the sensors, also what is the purpose of the LED/switch on the door pillar.

Thanks

Todd

Possibly the point about pushing the button with the ignition in position 2. I tried it with the key out, as on the saloons with the standard MB dash button. I'll retry when I get home.

Thanks

Nice thread, :)

I never knew what that LED did until this morning. After reading the thread, I pressed the LED for a couple of seconds with the key ion position 2 and then locked the car (whilst inside it) and the LED started flashing which I'd never seen before.

I couldn't seem to make the alarm go off by moving around inside the car but as soon as I opened the door, the alarm sounded. I'm guessing that the interior motion sensors are disabled or something being that I had the soft top on but good to know that it works anyway. Pressing the LED clearly turns on and off the system.

That LED is an ugly afterthought not in keeping with the car though. Whoever fitted the system didn't do a good job either. The panel beneath the middle vents is missing the screws that hold it in place and I suspect the brackets that the screws locate are missing too as I can't for the life of me see what they'd screw into. I can't seem to see this detail on the Russian parts site so I'd be interested in a photo of this area the next time any SL owner has this open.
