Car
C32 AMG
I recently put a deposit down on a 1999 e55 amg the car has covered 85,000 miles and comes with full service history 12 months mot ect, recent service, new tyres all round, the car dealer has checked over the car for rust and says there isn't any the arches bottom or doors are all ok! Is the anything the I should look out for when I collect the car that could end up costing me a lot of money if it goes wrong? Previous car was a c32 amg any advice would be great, thanks.

Rust on the lower cross member between the suspension legs as i understand is a prone area and cannot be spotted unless belly pan is taken off.

Check all the electrics work. Heated seats for example are expensive to repair.
Also check around the headlights and boot lock for rust. It will be a very rare W210 if there is no rust at all present.

So mainly rust issues to look out for nothing to look out for mechanically?

seeing as its fsh, check to see if the gearbox fluid has ever been changed,

Check also around the door rubbers lift them and see if there's any rust signs also if you get a chance put it in a ramp and check the fuel and brake lines they are very prompt for rust .
If I was in your position I'd pay for a professional to inspect it for a piece of mind mechanically they are sound ,is hard to find a performance car as reliable as that.
Good luck! You buying a awesome bit of kit!

(General W210 comments from someone who has owned 2 - neither were AMGs though)

If there is truly no rust under the door seals, then take the opportunity to spray some dispersant in there to keep water out. Waxoyl, spray grease, WD40 or even Vaseline!
Treat any stone chips immediately. Rust will spread like wildfire. Sometimes I thought I could see it spreading, especially around the headlights and front wheel arches.
Front spring mounts are also prone to rusting, especially the top ones. New ones can be welded in though but its inconvenient!

Thanks DrNick, first thing I plan on doing when I get the car is talking front and rear bumpers off, wings and side skirts to treat any current rust and rust proofing after treatment. Also buying a quality winter car cover to keep the British weather off it!

Picked up the car today am very impressed with the performance a lot more torque then my old c32! Few small issues and there is some cosmetic rust the seller lied  which I will be address ASAP will post some pictures up soon :thumb:

Welcome to the world of W210 AMG

Sounds like you have a good plan already, just bought my first W210 E55 AMG ESTATE two months ago, and are contemplating where to start with caring for it, mine needs loads of cosmetic work. I found quite a good YouTube channel, the user is called Antsufer from Estonia, who takes his W210 apart and shows how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqz2BoNjt8bxrzVW78Dig-Q, I enjoy how he does it :D Looking forward to a picture of yours :thumb:

I owned a lovely one and regret selling it. It still has less than 50k on the clock from new right now and is locked in a garage.
Mechanically they are very good and most defects can be sorted for reasonable money.
As others have pointed out rust is the problem on the 210! Unfortunately you just have to keep on top of it.
And lastly I would say keep a minimum of 1k to get her up to scratch.

Products and methods to use

Hi Leonc32, would be good to share products and methods used to address the small cosmetic rust you found, as I have to do the same, but a bit swamped with all that is out there on the market
