Well you learn something new everyday. Learned today that the Mercedes 2.5-16V EVO W201.036 came with self levelling suspension all round not just at the back like it's lesser brethren. Wonder if that was an option or standard fit. Interesting but prohibitively expensive retrofit for any 190 16V owner ?

Yep - the 2.5-16 Evolution I and II models had front and rear self-levelling suspension with electronic adjustment for ride height.

I understand that it was an optional factory fitment for the standard 2.5-16 as well, but I have never seen one - in the UK at least.

The suspension set up on these cars is one of their great qualities. It's a surprisingly simple system to work on and most parts are either inexpensive to buy new or simple to find used. Always amazes me how quite a few people rip it out and replace with cheap dampers and springs, IMHO usually because of a lack of understanding in how to diagnose and repair relatively simple issues :wallbash:

Especially when there didn't appear to be anything wrong with the SLS other than it was riding a bit low.
Mind you, he was dead impressed with the leaver interior.

I'm not surprised the Evo got SLS all round, you can't beat nitrogen as a spring, not just for it's ability to absorb bumps but also because it can't expand beyond it's original volume, so can't resonate, thus makes the body control much better with less stiff dampers.

Mine has full SLS all round...
