2 attempted thefts time to move on?

Really sorry to hear this ☹️. Our neighbours Range Rover got stolen about a year ago, that really freaked us out so know the exact feeling. Saw the rats on CCTV and it didn't take them that long. At that time we were having our diner and the neighbours were at home too.

Would you not consider Pandora? Highly recommend.

Have thought about this however the key blocker and ghost seem to be preventing it atm, they haven’t got into the car.

Hopefully with the failed attempts they won’t bother anymore

One of my friends was selling his S500 (lives in London btw) - had a couple suspicious blokes turn up to ‘view’ it - they didn’t even test drive it, had a look around it and then said they’d go home and pay for it over bank transfer….

1 hour later the car vanished off the driveway… police couldn’t give a s*** and said it was probably a coincidence…. 🤦‍♂️ Funnily enough CCTV showed 3 men (all with masks) running up to the car, it seemed to open immediately (hazards flashed) and they drove off in seconds… my friend still has both keys in his house… no clue what they did…

I guess this is why so many take a massive hit on PX/Trade in rather than the pain of private sale.

The world is crazy right now - and certain cities even crazier… you just can’t have nice things anymore without constant worry… I’ve had keyless entry disabled on all my cars for a while now - which is a great shame as it’s a lovely feature… needs must though.

A lot of people selling performance cars to dealers for the same reason. Can’t trust who turns up to have a look

You’re right Kenny. In Newton Mearns the quotes on premium SUVs have really gone up.

Seems to be the X5 attracts all sort of unwanted attention , hence the increased premium.

The X5 was almost double the cost than a similar aged Cayenne . IIRC the BMW was just over £1k whereas the Porker was £600 FC.

Plus not having keyless entry in the car may be a factor in lesser premium.

They don’t just want performance cars though. They will take anything. So called “pool” cars - non-descript average 4 door cars which will fly under the radar when dealing drugs - are just as targeted and desirable for them. My neighbour’s 69 plate Mazda hatchback was targeted in the summer and on cctv you could see them walk right past my C63 (and several other “desirable” cars on the street) and go straight for this one. Police said there had been a spate of “pool” car thefts. And as for electric cars ….. they are the main target now.
Don’t think that if you buy something more modest it will be less of a target because it’s not the case.
The Ghost makes it un-nickable without the code but just do everything you can to visually put them off. The copper who visited me to view our cctv in the summer told me the very best thing you can get is one of those Diskloks for the steering wheel. Very visual, nightmare for them to deal with, slows them down - they’ll choose another target 90% of the time.
Don’t sell your C63 mate.

There are rumours (nothing more) of some manufacturers stepping in to support insurance. Tesla being one, JLR being another.

You'd think it would be simpler to invest in better security in the factory on RRs than shell out money supplementing insurance of them to help sales

A disc lock sounds the simplest solution when at home, but also when out and about...

That’s true a lot of Kia’s are getting stolen too, I suppose it’s really just what they can get into.

I’ll have a look at diskloks

I’ll have a look at diskloks

I have a diskloc that i use, it the small size. They come in two colours, yellow or grey. Grey looks aesthetically pleasing to see. They also do the steering wheel sock, which is a cover that wraps around the steering which offers some protection against scratches. The diskoc itself is dead heavy and is very high quality.

On BMWs, avoid diskloc. Steering column on certain BMWs have a weak joint connection and the diskloc offers some leverage for them to snap off the steering wheel off along with part of the column. The rats like stealing steering wheels too 🤷

Hi , I have two steering wheel locks , the main lock is the deep dish type.

I install that all the time but when I go to London I also use the other system just to make it a little more difficult for the scum bags. The lock is the standard type.

I have installed a tracker but how effective that would be anyone's guess.

Years ago some gang tried to steal a mates 911 , bad idea as they found out as there cost.

Really easy to remove the M Sport steering wheel , along with part of the steering column.

Release the adjustment lever and push the wheel down as far as it goes then pull up quickly , like a slide hammer, and the lot is removed in seconds.

Has anyone considered hiding an Apple Airtag somewhere in the boot? At least you'll know where the car is, and the Airtag can't be disconnected or deactivated by the thieves.

Do they work in shipping containers as that's how many 'to order' cars are exported.

Plus, without tracking back if broken for parts, you'd probably find it in a pile with other discarded bits.

And your insurance premium would still double.....

For the price... it's still worth chucking one in the boot.

True

You could even make up or buy and out an eBay 'tracker' sticker on the rear window

If they see that they may skip it

OP I feel your pain. It’s a disgusting situation in London. I had a one month old BMW motorcycle stolen outside Claridges at 11am on a busy weekday two months ago. Tracker was removed in 30 mins and found in road by police. It pissed me right off.

Now I’ve gone back to a 7 year old bike that is hopefully less desirable. I’ve fitted it with 3 Apple AirTags.

A friend works in the trade and told me that customers are being refused insurance for RR’s anywhere inside the M25.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Crazy isn’t it, I know loads of people with RR wonder what they going to do on renewal, even me I wonder what it will be

The good thing about ghost is you can put it into a service/valet mode that lets you drive without the code and up to 30mph or 15mins. A friend of mine dropped his E90 M5 to bmw for service and couple of other bits. Anyways he got a phone call at 11pm from one of the technicians asking for his code, he was fuming and didn’t give him the code and told him the customer service manager needs to call him to collect the code. The engineer begged him but he still refused, 11:30 pm he got a call from the customer service manager and would only give up if some of his bill got waved. So does have its benefits

I would like to upload the clip but I think the file is too big

How did the tech know the customer’s phone number at 2300 at night when the dealership is presumably closed?
