Hi All

If anyone could help it would be really appreciated!

I have a E-class 320 cdi estate with 170k on the clock... I bought it smoky and with the information on this forum went ahead and cleaned the egr - manifold and refitted today.... Took it for a long hard drive to clear any residue left over from cleaning and it is still smoking badly (no as bad as before and the performance seems to be good)

So the question is:

Could it be the injectors?

I noticed one is 'chuffing' a little so i will reseal that - but could it be this causing the smoke?

I also noticed a few air bubbles on the clear fuel pipe under load - so i will replace the o rings on the connectors as well!

All help would be massively helpful and a look forward to you replies and suggestions!

Kindest Regards

Ross

Get the car plugged in and the codes read...could be an injector.

Up date on the smoky CDI

Booked for a STAR this week... but before that found after getting the engine hot and doing the 'italian tune up' for about 15 miles the smoke (still black) is less and certainly when the engine was hot a lot less smoke was being put out... this was suggested by the diesel specialist to try first - is there any particular treatment/brand/product that would help the process of cleaning out the cats and exhaust?

I also noticed as the car warmed up the air in the fuel lines stopped... could the air be contributing to the slightly lumpy tick-over and the amount of smoke? I have the o rings arriving this week also and will change any how!

I also now know one injector is leaking after cleaning the top of the engine well enough to see when any new liquid/diesel is being forced through - so prob contributing to the smoke!

All help welcome and i will update as i fault find through the process of getting the car running well!

Many thanks

Ross

Don't think that you will cure the smoke, I changed my EGR valve the other year with the same hope but still after following slow traffic for a few miles when I banzai past the one behind cannot see for about 200yds then it clears up providing I do not go slow again. Think my injectors are OK as it nearly always seems to run OK and gives good consumption.

The only other thing i can think of is the fact that the exhaust and cats have so much gunk in them it would take a lot of hard driving and cleaner to clear them - i am warming to the fact that it is smoky here and there and i will have to live with it!

will injector cleaner stop a small knock on the front injector on my 1997 250 turbo diesel it has 15000 miles on the clock
