2000 W210 e320cdi estate
On my 2000 w210 e320cdi estate, the engine temp gauge normally runs at 40C. even when I first drove one the motorway. the maximum I seen was 60C a few days ago in very heavy traffic.

I checked on the russian website It appears that MZ have upgraded the themostat to 92C .

I rang my local dealer and they confirmed the part No .

Has anybody had replaced theirs to the 92C thermostat on the w210 e320cdi?

Fit a new thermostat, mine can be slow to warm up but gets there eventually!I'm getting a new thermostat to see if it helps.

I replaced mine to the 92 deg stat. did it christmas day.
WORD OF CAUTION:'

Had to wait til Jan 2nd for parts dept to re-open, to replace the broken fuel line i split whilst replacing the stat. They are as brittle as everyone says so please please please go easy on them. If you're thinking at some point "If I just can stretch or push this line up a bit to get to the Stat Bolt..." then don't try it... think of some other way or have the parts dept on speed-dial.

Good luck, hope it hasn't put you off, and as I discovered, check the part before you walk out, the castings are shocking on some of them...see>

now it's fixed though, and it's well worth it. Fuel economy is up, and so is the engine temp and cabin heat!

The thermostat arrived yesterday.Yes the casting is very bad. cannot dream you this type of quality from MBZ.came complete with the seal , temp sender until , and the connector for the small rubber hose. Surprised as the Russian website says with that part Number you will only get the housing and the seal

The part number on the box ( a6132000115)was correct but the part No on the thermostat casting was diffrent (a6132030175, next line BERHR2.436.92.H0) On closer inspection the number on the actual thermostat is 2.434.92. I hope 92 means 92 degrees.

Does the standard thermostat open at 88 degrees? Can you choose which 'stat you want or did the 92 degree supersede the lower temperature one?

At the same time I will be flushing the cooling system with a radiator flushing liquid . I will be replacing the anti freeze by the red color 5 year protection by Comma Xstream G30 Silicate free ( MBZ specification DBL7700.30-325.3)

The present is a green colour anti freeze . Comma do a green color Siicate based anti freeze called Xstream G48 to MBZ specification DBL 7700.2-325.0. but only has a 3year protection

Comma also do a orange color with the same MBZ specification as the above green one for heavy duty work with a servcie life of 6000hours.

Since I am upgrading my coolant I have to completely flush the old coolant . I did this about 15years ago on my W124 300d and about 3years ago on my w124 300td and had no long term problems. The only problem I had I had keep topping up the first two weeks when the air pockets keep coming up.

Comma technical also conformed that if I do this I will be OK.

Thanks for all the infomation lads.

will post again once I complete the job.

I changed my thermostat on my C 270cdi and did exactly a you mentioned and snapped a fuel line , £28 +Vat and was told it is the most common item sold.. I flushed and used blue colour.the one that came off had 92 on the inside and was only reaching 60 at best. An easy job providing you take the oil filter cap off if the 320 is the same, but was quoted £185 pound with me supplying the part.still miffed now. Hope it goes well.

Regards

My present 1986 300d and 1992 300td working temperature is around 95 degrees and the car does get warm with minutes in winter.

Hopfully I will get the same thing with this 2000 e320cdi when the thermostat/ coolant is changed.

comma does a blue one as well but it is not for mercedes . Its for VW. Bentley Lamborghini. with a 5 year protection .DOES Not mentioned MBZ specification.

Check the writing on the can

Be carefull Markedes you might do some damage

The weather was warm last one week in N london . It took me just 30 minutes to swap the thermostat the old one was 87 degrees. and the new superceded version with the same part No was 92 degrees.

But It took me nearly two days to flush the system of the old green anti freeze disappears completely. as I had to wait for the engine to cool down than warm up until so that the heater martix will be flushed as well to make sure the stat opens.

Put the new anti freeze by Cooma pink colour xstream G30.thsi grade is mercedes approved for the e320cdi

the temperature gauge now reads about 90degrees. I very happy now

this job was a piece of cake .

only took the engine cover off.

did not have to take the oil housing off.

I used star socket set from a set by halfords professional set. with the fexible extension bars. ie these bars can have a play about 90 to 60 degrees on the socket.

this feature was useful when trying to remove / refit two of the star three nuts stat housing which was behind the oil filter housing. did not really want to remove the oil housing just in case the anti freeze gets into the engine oil system.

easier than changing my first air filter on this car.

but very time consuming when flushing the cooling system ,using water from my condensing dryer. the old green anti freeze finally disappeared after flushing 6 times with cooling and warming cycles. then finally the new pink anti freeze added commar Xstream G30( cheaper and better than Halfords advance anti freeze. both approved By MZ for e320cdi). This should last 5 years . the old green one last only 3years acording to the specifications.

yesterday when to coventry from enfield and back ie around 200miles total. I managed to get 52.7mpg and around 33mpg in town . very good improvement with new 92degrees stat . only got 48mpg or around 20ish around town with the old 87degrees stat. can't belive changing the stat can make such difference or could be just the warmer weather.
