2002 Vito steering lock help needed

My 2002 vito failed its mot today on a wheel bearing (fair enough) and the fact the steering lock does not seem to work - I.e. won't engage.

Help please as I was really happy about the rest! Any suggestion to get it working?

Pardon me being from Ireland but what has a steering lock got to do with a cars road worthiness ?

apparently the test is required to make sure the lock will not engage when you are driving which makes sense. The face mine wont engage at all is also a failure

Frustrating though it may be, you can see the logic: If it is not engaging when it should, perhaps it may therefore not be relied on not to engage when it shouldn't.

A bit obvious I suppose, but would it be worth removing the plastic steering column trim & spraying a load of WD40 into the lock to column interface.?
