Hi I have a 2003 CL that has the wide screen Sat Nav, but is CD based.
It has the TV function and I would like to try to activate TV in motion.
I have read through countless forums and found that all the unlock codes do not work on this, as it is not the system that has the buttons down the side of the screen.
I hope that this has not been posted before, but I have searched and searched!!

Please help.

Regards

Scott

Are you sure your car has a TV tuner? Even if you have a TV button on the COMAND it does not follow that you definately have a TV tuner.

If you do have the tuner then you should think carefully before enabling TV/Video in motion as it will undoubtedly render your insurance invalid. It is also an extremely dangerous thing to do.

What a nice sensible posting:)

Does anyone actually have any facts on this?

If I want to enable video in motion so I can see what MP3 is playing or something is my insurance genuinely invalid?

On our 211 the COMAND displays the Mp3 information whilst the vehicle is in motion. (according to my daughter) I wonder if this insurance statement might be because the car has been modified to perform an illegal function? Perhaps this is where the argument comes from?

I hate the idea with a vengeance and I guarantee that the owner will say, "It's not for me it's for the children!" Even though these young children might have to be in the back seats. Why not fit monitors in the rear of the vehicle?

I believe so as you have the capability to watch TV/video. Having enabled an illegal activity the insurance will use it to get out of paying up. Remember anything they can do to get out of it, they will. Its just not worth the risk to your insurance or other road users. The law on this is in place for a reason. That reason is because its unsafe to drive whilst having a video source active.

Many insurance companies now invalidate a drivers insurance if they have an accident whilst having been over the drink drive limit. Again, an activity that is against the law.

Edit: I've just read the thread Fuzzer has posted. There is one definate case where the insurance was invalidated.

Try to think of it like this; How would you feel if you had an accident with another driver and one of your kids was injured whilst the other driver was watching TV on his way home from work. Would you say 'Oh well never mind I wont mention it to the police? I think not. You'd be pretty quick to call the police if he was drunk though.

i do believe you, but i do wonder how they can get away with it, i suspect that you not being of sound judgment when you're drunk and get into a car has something to do with it???

dunno

One of the good positive things about this forum is that people are massively helpful - yet not afraid to speak their mind! Hope you have not taken offence and we will see you again!

They make it a condition that you accept when you take out the insurance. It will be in their terms and conditions somewhere. IT'll say something like 'We reserve the right to cancel this policy or make it invalid at any time should we discover that you have made any alteration to your vehicle not permitted in law or should you be in breach of any law at the time of any accident' blah blah blah....

Once you pay the premium, you've accepted their terms:eek:

I can remember the 60s when on every mini involved in an accident with a young driver the engines were stripped by the insurance companies.

Hi shipsey,
I am very sorry if I came over a bit strong, but it is something I have strong feelings over. There are some very nice rear screens on the market and good luck if you decide to go ahead with this very nice option.

You have a very nice car and hopefully we might see some pictures on the Members Gallery ;) ;)

Regards,
John
