Have been looking at C Class Coupes and CLKs.

I have been offered this particular car; 2003 (03) CLK 270 CDI Auto Avantgarde, in Jaspar Blue with Black Leather for £9500. It will have 12 months MOT and a short warranty. It has been serviced 4 times; twice by MB (16 and 30K) and twice by an independant (43 and 60) car has 69000 miles on it, 5000 miles until next A service and all four tyres are 'nearly new'. It is in York, opposite side of the country to me so it is not easy to get over to it.

Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

Is there anything that should have been done in the servicing that is worth checking? ATF changes etc?

Will this car have Xenons, PDC as standard?

Does anyone live near York who could look at it for me?

Xenons and Parktronic not standard on Avantgarde. No Mobilo cover, either on this with the last 2 services being at an indie. Can't comment on the price - can anyone in the current climate??

Realise that Mobilo will not be valid on this car - no issues with that. I would be concerned about whether the servicing was conducted correctly at the indie though. I cheekily offered the trader £8500 on this CLK by email at the weekend. When I called today, he remembered my name and told me he deleted the email as soon as he read it!

Car is up for £9750, he clearly will not entertain £8500, he has told me on the phone that he would sell for £9500 so I am homing in on an acceptable price. According to Glass's the p/x value is:

Excellent condition:£9470
Average condition:
£8510
Below average condition:
£7570

due to the history , the £8500 is more realistic.

I tend to agree fuzzer, I bet he paid no more than £7K as a trade in.

I am up your way at the moment, near Helensburgh!

Oh Cool :) Lovely area. Do try the contractors road between the naval base and loch lomond :)

Keep driving allong the road past the naval base and its on your right hand side. Really fun and well kept road and the views on both sides are stunning.

Don't stop on the road however or a man with a sub machine gun might ask what youre up to in camo gear :)

Seems high to me

Fuzzer, i use that road twice a week driving to and from home! Actually I work in the Naval Base!

it actually came in as one of the cheapest new shape CLKs on Autotrader. If that is overpriced then they all are - which is probably true!

Cars & houses are both suffering at the moment, they are all priced at what the seller hopes to get, but none or not many are actually selling. If the trader is deleting e-mails with serious & fair offers to buy, he will be one of the first to go under. If you try your offer again in a couple of weeks, he may have a different attitude.

I can see why it is voted a good driving road ! I remember when it was a private MOD road (about 15 years ago). Here is a picture of my BMW E92 335d (the blue one) on the road last year. (going well off topic!) - sorry mods!

Am game for a pint sometime ***!

:D

I love coming up over the steep rise, just before where that pic was taken, and then the road openning out onto that. You've gone the better way, as that way you get the view onto Loch Lomond near the end of the run.

Way off topic but I saw a silver GL320cdi in the 'burgh this weekend, was that (potentially) you. Can't imagine there is that many of them.

I'm usually free on friday nights and this saturday for a wee drink (not too much as got work on sunday). You should put yourself down for the scottish GTG in Stirling (January)

I am generally not here at weekends, I live in Lancashire and commute home every weekend. I had my GL320 up here last week, but it is Obsidian Black!

Wasnae you :( I'll keep a look out for you. Mine is more anonomous than a GL - but probably more ideal for commuting to Lancs and back fuel cost wise. If you're here some weekend, drop us a PM if you fancy a pint.

Fuzzer and other localish members, this includes you as well.

Although I had investigated the CLK270CDI, finding the 'right' car with all the right ticks (history, price) is problematic. I started to look at petrols. I have worked out that if I drive 12000 miles per year I will pay an extra £385 in fuel based on a CLK320 doing 28 MPG and a CLK270CDI doing 41MPG, with petrol @ 92.9 and diesel @ 106.9. VED is slightly higher and if the new rates are placed in abeyance that will be an added bonus, the ridiculous petrol/diesel differential helps here. The price of petrols is also lower than the same age diesels.

I came across this car on eBay. Pedigree seems impeccable, 2002 (52) CLK320 Elegance, full MB service history, Mobilo still active, just had B service (automatic fluid and brake fluid all changed on time) easy to check on servicing, 4 new tyres, 48000 miles and, first impressions, the owner seems a decent, honest chap.

I asked him what the reserve was, although he didn't say outright, I suspect it is a shade under £8000. The colour is not number one choice and I would have prefered the Avantgarde trim over the Elegance but ...... compromises compromises.....

Is 28mpg achievable from a CLK320 on a motorway run?

I would say so. That's fairly typical for a steady motorway run in my C32.

Managed 31+ on a handful of occasions.
