Evening all,

My auto gearbox has been playing up lately, seems to be when I change direction and put my foot down, ie when overtaking or turning off a road, it will rev hard and stay in a low gear, then I will have to stop and turn the car off and on again, turn on the engine and all will be fine. It feels like a sensor in the box to me, as the car runs along quite happily normally. Do I have a dead gearbox or is this something that can be solved?

Thanks

James

It could very well be a failing sensor. Mileage? When last was the gearbox oil and filter changed?

I am surprised that you have not followed the most common advice on this forum. Get the car diagnosed by Star. You may have the start of a failing seal aka candle wicking issue. Sooner or later your gearbox may go down in full limp mode.

ahem 220,000, fluid has been changed recently, but not the filter. Getting it on STAR is next on my list, but I live out in the sticks and work a 9 to 5, so not conducive for finding and getting to a decent indie! Posting here was basically just fact finding :)
