E320 CDI Sport AMG Package
Hi

I have a W211 2005 E320 CDI Sport with 18 inch alloy wheels fitted. I'm doing some preparation for winter  by looking at winter tyres and steel wheels etc.

I can't find it clarified anywhere if the Sport version of the W211 will accept 16" wheels or not - 16" steels are readily available but 17" don't appear to be easy to find at all.

Can anybody help please?

OK thanks for that - any ideas about where I could get some 17" steels - mrtyres only seems to stock up to 16".

Are you sure 17" wheels will fit over the front brakes?

The factory supplied space waster in the boot is a 17" wheel so I would hope so :)

Looking at the discs there is plenty of clearance round them which is why I was wondering/hoping that 16" steels may fit for winter.

I think you might find it hard to get 16s steel, let alone 17s

I was considering doing the same on my E320cdi sport. I've been looking at the cheaper end of 17" alloys - probably an 'easier' choice than trying to find 17" steels.

Yes - I'm rapidly coming to that conclusion - was just doing a last ditch effort

I can't seam to see how to contact MadFrank, so if by any chance he is still getting emails from this thread, could you let me know if you did manage to downgrade to 17" wheels?
Thanks,
F.

I have a 2007 E320cdi Sport Estate and have 16" steel wheels with no spacers (ET42) that I got from mytyres in readiness for the winter last year. They are fine and clear the calipers with ease.

Full spec for 16 inch wheels: 7½ x 16 5 x 112.00 x 66.50 ET42 with 225/55/16 tyres. If you find the same spec alloys then they should be fine too. I prefer the steel ones as down to strength and general resilience.

These are correct per the Mercedes W211/S211 spec sheet.

Standard Mercedes E320 Sport ET's are 38 rear and 39 front.

Higher ET's will sit the wheels further in towards the centre of the car and give less clearance between outside caliper edge and wheel plus sit the inner edge of the wheel closer to the suspension arms etc.

Shape of the wheel also plays a part in addition to the post above.
