This week's problem with the car... There is no heat coming into the car, regardless of what thermostat settings are made. If I demand full heat on both sides, the fans go crazy but deliver only ice-cold air. The engine side of things appears to be in order, running at correct temp, coolant up to level, etc. But no heat! Any suggestions welcome, apart ftom 'set fire to car'. I've already got that one in mind... Funny, but text formatting doesn't work on this mobile browser. That's why you have got a solid block of text and no carriage returns - strange! Anyway, if anyone can shed light on the heater problem I will be grateful. Cheers.

My 2003 S6 has a pump for the heater water under the air intake pipe on the OS chassis rail. Wonder if it could be that? Have you tried all the fuses?

I've checked the fuse 'map' to see if anything fits the bill. Nothing relates to air conditioning, heater, or anything related. I haven't yet pulled all the fusrs and done a visual check, but that's easy enough to do. I'm on holiday in the Dales/Lake District, so it has chosen a particularly good time for something to fail.

Thanks, DB. That link looks on the money to me.

I have previously had the rear blowing hot when the front is cool, so I think that was perhaps a fore-taste of things to come.

Above is for left hand drive, if right hand drive its under the brake servo and is a pig to get to.

Does same happen even when the car has been left off overnight? I had the same on my W211 but the next day it would always be fine.

Does your car have the 4 zone climate (the one with the digital dispays for temperature in the front and rear)?

If so, it's the duo valve. Very common. Only about £25 for the part, but a good 3-4 hours labour to fit it, so you need to find a good indi that's done one before.

It's a rhd i6 E320CDI with two-zone Thermatic.

The problem has been the same all week - it stated the day before I started this thread.

I had heard of a heater valve under the brake servo before, so just my luck that it's packed up and a b@st@rd to fix.

To add to my enjoyment of the car this week, the PDC also packed up on the same day, and this morning the glowplug lamp stayed on after start-up.

You've gotta love MB quality and reliability.

That car is dying. Rust, this....

Time for a proper car, time to get a BMW. :ban:

Recent (well, last 10 years anyway) marques on the corned household drive - Jaguar, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, M-B.

No other cars have ever gone wrong (front springs on the Pug excepted) so to have so many issues with mine is just not something I am used to.

No wonder they refer to the 124 as the last 'real' M-B. The 211 illustrates this view perfectly... :(

Quick update for anyone who may be interested.

I took some time to have a poke around yesterday. I pulled every fuse in the car - front, mlddle and rear - and found all of them to be serviceable. As expected.

So I located the heater valve, sitting under the brake master cylinder assembly. You can see it quite plainly but you can't easily access it, as we all know. So I found the operating bar for my trolley jack, and gave the valve a damn good whack or three, more in hope than expectation, and mainly just to make myself feel a bit better by hitting the bloody thing.

Today the heating works perfectly. Hot, cold, all point in between. All vents, front and rear, all the correct and equal temperatures. :bannana:

Maybe these infernal Teutonic contraptions like a bit of rough now and again?

And oddly, the PDC system is now working perfectly again, and the glowplug light has resumed normal service too. I can't quite fathom that one out, but I'm not complaining.

I assume it's only a temporary stay of execution in any event - on all three counts.

I think I'm going to hit my rear arches a few times with the same pole. Maybe it will persuade the newly-appearing rust to go away again too...
