So I got the new C63 and as it has Comand I got several leads that can connect to an iPhone. The dock connector lead is quite short about 300mm and just about allows you to connect the iPod/phone and lay it on the slide cup holder cover.
I wanted to extend this so it can connect to my phone whilst it was sitting in a cradle, this way I can slot it in and out with one hand when I jump in the car.
So I bought of ebay for £4.99 an extender lead to achieve this. Now this lead whilst it does work and charge the iPhone, Comand won't recognise it as an attached device so after some looking up it became clear that not all leads are the same. If you want to do this I would advise spending a bit more (well quite a bit more) and get the CableJive dockXtender as this does work very well.
I paid £22 from amazon for it.
Hopefully this will save someone else a fiver on a lead that won't work.
As for fitting be very very careful when removing the Comand scroll wheel as the cable attached to mine was trapped so when I yanked it out the cable broke, luckily it can be easily disconnected which I did and soldered in an extension to it as its only four wires, I used a bit of telecoms cable.![Eek! :o :o](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f631.png)
Actually I'm quite pleased with how tidy it looks and it doesn't intrude too much for the passenger either. The actual dock is very clever in that its sides are adjustable so my iPhone with its slim cover fits in easily.
