2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class - Offical Press Release

Sorry guys, but I just don't get the idea of a very large car with only 4 seats.

MB did it with the CLS, and Porsche and AM followed suit with the Panamera and Rapide.

For the life of me I can not understand why would anyone want a long and wide car with four doors and one seat less?

I can. But then again, I have an S Class :D

I have to say that I do like the 4-seat approach.

It gives all occupants a good amount of personal space.

It also helps balance load and doesn't encourage over-burdening the rear axle.

Having said that, I do not permit rear passengers.

A third person sitting in the middle will/would always mark the interior when getting in/out, too.

It's quite nice, I like it. More aggressive, than the previous version, but it doesn't really look like a "4 door coupe" anymore...It's more a like E-Class with different looks.

The headlights are also an improvement, but I still prefer the ones you get on the new C-Classes. Although, I hate the stupidly cut headlights you get on the E-class.

Maybe I'll change my tune when I have driven one, but it doesn't really light my fire. Nothing like as pure in design as the old one, but I'm much more interested in the way it drives. If it's anything like the 212 I had on loan a couple of weeks ago that might be another disappointment:(
But then I am totally biased....;)

My biggest complaint of the old one was the design of the rear amd i think theyve sorted it.
I think its very good looking personally but can see why people dont like it.

Well the main reason I complain so much about the CLS... is that I would really love to have one but I just can't do without the extra seat

are any planning marriage any time soon or going to uni.. its a tight window, but u could sneak it in during the interim periods lol

im actually preferring the looks of the non amg sports kit version. the chrome that is evident on the standard bodykit version is very classy, whilst the sports pack full of plastic is looking cheaper, even though it will cost more.. bizarre! More is Less apparently..

Couldn't agree more. The AMG kit / Sports kit looks over the top to me. Maybe its the photography - in the flesh it might look different. (Shadows have clearly been highlighted in the picture....)

I like it more than the one it replaces.

You can get a five seater. You just have to ask for a special order. I was offered a five seater option on my first CLK.

Sorry Guys, but it’s a thumbs down from me. Gone is the purity of line that the original CLS has. Instead you get multiple and conflicting lines, creases, droopy, swoopy bits and of course that now trade mark awful rear arch. Have MB’s designers taken leave of their senses, or are they trying to emulate some of the awful offerings of BMW’s recent past. Please, come back Bruno Sacco

I fully agree. They've spoilt it completely and what's with MB AND those hideous arches?

Also, I can't believe that they didn't notice that, in the rear shot, the rear left headrest is lower or tipped back, more-so than the right headrest!:doh:
Once noticing this small detail, the picture looks spoiled. :(

You see what I mean about Brabus? below is an image from the Brabus SLS press release. Note the guy in the shirt & tie in the reflection :D

It's worse than a guy in shirt tie - it's another photographer! That's a big fat fail for them!

My word.... that is shocking.

I seriously cannot believe that these pics are not looked over with a microscope before they are approved.

Unforgiveable.

This is getting beyond sad, but It's a camera on a tripod, with an extended neck - the camera is visible in the red part of the light housing in front of his face...

I'll get my coat!
