Hi all
Three times I gave had a orange engine warning light come on followed by the adblue need topping up warning, twice just after a service at MB service centre, they pick the car up and bring it back with no explanation , after top up, the last time they told me it was a simple enough job of just wiping the injection nozzle because it had a build up of adblue round it. My question is, are they bull ****ting me or is the a on going problem with this model.
Thanks
Mike

Doesn't sound right. There's a large tank in the car. Think it's 24litres. The car uses a litre per 1000 miles or something like that. When you top up the car you need to leave the ignition on for 30s before starting. It's in the manual exactly what to do. With mine the warning came on at about 20000 miles. Think it hadn't been topped up after the first A service. Topped it up myself and the warning light went out after I followed the procedure and it hasn't come on since.

I would love to meet the boffin who dreamed up the idea of filling a tank full of wee to reduce emissions

Having to clean the injector nozzle sounds like rubbish to me. Is the filler cap in the boot on the C-Class like it is on an S-Class? Meaning you have to empty your boot and spill the 37% p!ss solution all over the spare wheel well and your hands every few thousand miles when you top it up?

I've got a brand new loaded Audi A8 diesel until further notice since Audi have messed up a recall on my S8 and the Adblue filler cap is in the most natural location one could imagine... next to the diesel filler cap!

Where do they get it all from?

If they're running short they could try Bruce Miller's trousers.

We have a VW Tiguan with Ad Blue and I've certainly seen comments on US forums (where they've had Ad Blue VWs for longer than here) about the injector getting crystallization on it.

On Tiguan and Touraeg it's under the boot floor. Be a right pain if you did a lot of miles and needed to keep filling it up. VW's use loads of the stuff - in the US Audi cheated and turned it off in highway use!

I have had a couple of recent diesels and neither had ad blue why not?

It's generally needed to meet EU6 on medium to large cars registered from Sept 2015.

So the vehicles you had could be older EU5 or smaller cars. Some manufacturers (ie Mazda) have been able to engineer around needing to fit solutions using Ad Blue.

2015 Audi SQ5 - no ad blue
2012 BMW 320d - no ad blue
2016 BMW 335d - no ad blue

I have the add blue filler cap next to the diesel filler cap on my recently purchased c300 h,it counts down similar to service assyst,ie it said 16,200 on the add blue menu and after doing 200 miles it read 16,000,dealer said it is now part of scheduled servicing and as I will only do 12,000 annual miles in it should only need topping up at service time-some people have mentioned topping up via the floor pan in their boot,I take it there cars don't have a separate filler next to there diesel filler cap which sounds strange?
