203 Alarm

Removed siren yesterday, opened it , full of gunge,
if I just replace it with new it should work then?
I have a brand new Maystar siren with backup battery
but it says it must be connected to a negative earth trigger,
Q: is the alarm a negetive earth trigger?
Many Thanks David B.

Bumped this thread as I have now got the same fault. When car is locked after a short while the flashers start to flash but no alarm sounds.

As I had been away for about 10 hours the battery was nearly dead.

Had to open the car with the manual key, which promptly sounded the alarm.

Silenced that but car would not start due to flat battery.

RAC got it started after assuring me he would not fry the electrics.

Of course problem is I cannot lock the car or the battery may go flat if the flashers go off again.

Would removing fuse no 8 temporarily disable the alarm enough to stop the flashing until I get a chance to get intothe siren.

Also if the siren is disconnected, will that also temporarily solve the problem ? and why does a new one need recoding as some people say they are plug and play?

I am just trying to think of ways of keeping the car useable until I can get time to investigate

Thanks

PS Also how come the alarm sounded when i manually opened the car if the siren is faulty??

Yes, removing the alarm solves the problem..
I used to own a 203 and my alarm went caput..
I removed the knackered siren and didnt bother replacing it ever..
It never caused me any concern after that..
I coiled up the wires and pushed waxoil into the connectore holes..
My "cure" worked for almost a year after which the car was sold..
