20p coins fetching good money on Ebay

They were undated on one side. Isn't that always the case ?:wallbash:

i think one sold recently for £7k, the story of the 20p has been around for a while now, about 200,000 where made by the mint without the date last year. there is a web site offering £50 each for them.

Just how rare are these 20p coins......I bagged up £100 worth of 20p coins last week.....I always put my 20p's in an old bottle (sad I know). Just went and had a look through each bag and I've got 16 of these non dated 20p's!!!!

Just had a look at e-bay and pricing is all over the place....supposedly some have been bid upto £175, whereas other listings with 4 minutes to go have received no bids at £0.99p....I can only assume that the listings with high bids are being ramped up by shill bidding.

Well I'm no expert on coinage, but apparantly the mint are offering £50.00 each for bona-fida coins, and they seem to be selling for more than this on eBay etc.

I think there's a fair few scammers jumping on the band wagon with loose descriptions trying to take people for mugs. Ie, they're not selling the proper items - new style coins with dates on them instead, or perhaps they don't even intend to send you anything, etc.

If you've genuinely got 16 of these dateless 20ps, well done and I should think you could buy yourself a nice little treat with the proceeds

Hmmm.....interesting......I wonder if its a regional thing, ie did they release them in the South East and specifically, seeing as I have 16 of them, did they deliver them to banks in my area, ie Reading?

Who cares . That's £800 for checking!!!

Genuine ones seem to make £150 - £200. The ones that get no bids at 99p are dated coins and worth 20p.
Are you sure that all 16 coins have no date on either side? Estimates that I've seen are 100,000 to 200,000 coins made. Some will have been recovered by the mint.
Well done if you really have 16 non dated coins :thumb:

The 'new design' side is always undated - and thats why it all went wrong - previously that side had the date.

- The date has now moved to the other side - clearly they forgot to move the date on the first batches -

So theres a lot of people out there who think they have the undated ones, but just havent checked the other side.

So would it be counterfeit to reproduce something that wasn't legal tender in the first place? Or were they?

my friends have only just heard of this even though i told them all about it 6 months ago when they were fetching £600 on ebay

This post is equally embarrassing as it is funny.....so much for my 16 coins....little did I know as I was getting excited about finding the first undated coin, that my two daughters who were also supposedly helping in the search were slipping the undated coin into the bags of other 20p's.....fell for it hook line and sinker!!!! Didn't even occur to me to then check the 16 coins lined up as they were all the same side up.

What a complete push over I was!!!!!.....revenge will be mine though and when they least suspect it, however, at least there is still one undated coin, so its not all bad...well not quite anyway!
