hi everybody,

i recently bought 17x7.5 ET35 alloy wheels for my mercedes w124 230E.Now i am searching for the best tire size for my w124.Tirerack recommends me 215/45/17,but i find this tire to be SMALL.afterwards,i searched in the forum and found that 225/45/17 may fit well and that all depends on the car.

can anyone help me and advice me the correct tire size for my w124 230E.
in the attachements are my current wheels(15x6.5)205/60/15 and will be replaced by 17x7.5 et35.Does anybody has an idea if the 225/45/17 will fit without causing rubbing issues and other problems such as handling?

waiting for a quick reply,

sw124

I have a 230E W124 and i have AMG rims, specs are

215,45,17

Smooth and low profile tyres.. all 4 Pirelli...

I was just thinking about the offsets - the link I posted lists ET42 with 235/45 - you have ET35 so if I've worked it out right 225/45s on your wheels will be sticking out 2mm less than 235/45 on ET42. So I wouldn't expect any arch problems.

Do you have the standard suspension set-up?

I have encountered rubbing problems with 225/45 17s on ET35 wheels but have the Sportsline suspension on my W124.

Speaking for myself.. 215,45,17 i have.. is a really good setup..
Any bigger and you will have rubbing..

If you do decide to go for 225/45/17 you can have my tyres that I bought for £210 plus £30 postage.

They are 2x Pirelli with 7mm and 2x Continental Sport Contact 3 with 7mm

Let me know... this is the price i payed for them, but am thinking to get 215/45/17 instead for my 7.0J rims

I have the standard one.so do u expect problems?

On standart i had 225/45 R17 for a year without any rub.Now i have 215/45,but need to remember that i`ve lowered the car by 50mm

Here's my old coupe .

17 inch wheels , ET 35 , 225/45/17 all round with a 30mm drop . No worries.

With 35 offset,225/45 would be fine.

thanks everybody for the extreme useful help! For the rear of my w124 225/45/17 seem to be ok but what about the front?is there enough space?
thanks

Howdy, I had CLK AMG Rims on my 124, 225/45 front and 245/40 rears, only had the odd rub on the near side rear due to a tired shock absorber.

Have faith, 225/45 will be fine.
