225/45/17 on w124!!!

My old w124 had a 30mm drop with 225/45/17's wheels were ET35.

The wheels the previous owner had on were ET25 and rubbed slightly where Spike pointed out , when i had the car , i had no rubbing.

Wheel offset and the shape of the tyre edge will probably determine whether the tyre will rub

To conclude will i need to lower my car or there is a great risk of rubbing if i do that?

i recently changed my absorbers

the pictures are Bilstein absorbers

You don't need to lower it, but large wheels and low profile tyres will not look great with suspension that high. It looks like you could fit tractor tyres in there to be honest... ;)

As bolide points out, width of tyres cannot be considered in isolation - need to factor in offset of wheel.

AMG spec'd 8J wheels with an offset of 28mm for the Hammer.

Wearing 225's on a wheel with offset higher than 28mm means lesser chance of rub with aggresive lowering. ET35 is a better place to be, but i just don't see the need for 225 when 215's will work fine.

after a lot of searching in the forum i found that 225/45/17 causes tramelining and this is a source of instability at high speed. Is that really true???

As your car is the 4x4 version they won't rub unless you have 4 bifters sat in the back. 225/45/17 is fine and looks much better than 215's. I used them on my lowered 124 without any problems.

No offence, but just pick one and fit them !! :)

I never found it to be a problem, I suppose it depends on what your roads are like but 225 is not an especially wide tyre on a 7.5 inch rim and should be fine.

...

thanks man for your help.i wish that 225/45/17 will really be nice.:)
But i just want to confirm if anyone has experienced trameline with 225/45/17

thanks

Obviously my groundhog picture was a little too subtle

You keep going round in circles sW124, just get the 215's if you are in any way not sure.

The is only a mere 10mm difference in overall width anyway so visually you'll not spot the difference.
