Hmm thinking on the quest for more power and reading Koolvins turbo mod I have been thinking yet again.

Could get a 2.0 for £500 less what I would get for mine then it would be a case of fitting but dont think the power would be worth it where the 230k could be done for around half the cost of the turbo with similar power gains.

Would the standard drive train / 4 speed auto cope with this engine. Fair enough it may rev higher per gear and not get the top end due to the ratios but in terms of excess strain. Just a thought. Spent to much on it to look back now so the next thing might as well be a bigger lump :D

...you need to take a C230K for a spin. Isn't it better to get a factory car that goes fast rather than a slower car and modifying it? Less hassle and probably not much difference on the cost. I get immense satisfaction from engaging 2 gear kickdown on my C230k (flooring the accelerator). A C230K will also (if I remember correctly) have 5 speed auto transmission - well mine does. About 20mpg in London traffic, maximum 35 mpg on the motorway (70mph). You'll notice the differernce from a C180 guaranteed.

Yes. Why spend all that money on what is still basically a C230k? :)

If you're going to swap the engine then you might as well fit an S500 engine and transmission.

Was thinking the 230K as this would basically be the same as the Turbo upgrade but with half the cost.

Hmmm  So tell me more on the S500 engine and transmission.

Would it fit? Costs?

But would the 230 fit? Iknow it would bolt straight in but in terms of any other parts?

*EDIT*
230 would keep the insurance reasonable to

These guys used to make a W202 C500 based on a C180 with S500 engine, transmission and brakes etc, done because it was faster and cheaper than C36/43 :)

Not sure of costs but you can bet it'll be similar to the 230k parts, the labour will be the same, possibly less!

Engine, transmission, rear diff, front brakes, intercooler, supercharger, ECU, a shedload of pipework and plastic air parts, possibly different radiator, MAS, possibly some wiring and I think that's it.

You think? It would be cheaper to insure a factory C230k than a C180 with a C230k engine. Try getting a quote to find out :)

Sent an email to see if I get any info on the s500 engine. The website only relates to classic cars. Do you no of any example of such 500 conversions?

Other that that its looking like the Turbo would be the simplist. Or even easier get a new car. The S500 would be good as it would certainly be unique.

Why not buy a turbo, manifold and intercooler from a 220 CDi and chuck that on. You will probably need a fifth injector setup but it should move OK.

I must, must agree. There is no reason, economic or othewise, that I can imagine you would benefit from by fitting a C230K engine to a C180.

Cost wise, the conversion would make it uneconomical. Not only that, but the re-sale will be lower than a C230K. Insurance will generally be more expensive, in some case very significant as some may not quote for such modifications.

Buy a C230K and swap your goodies over (leather, stereo, rims). It'd probably only cost you £1-2K to trade up - I know what I would do... ;)

HTH :)

Exactly. But if it's custom and exciting you want, don't fit an egine already available in the w202!

Yep the replys all make sense. The only thing that was miking me think the 230K was same power as Turbo. Maybe less money but then you can get the car for that. Still always nice to get the feedback of club members.

??? Would this work are the diesel parts compatible. Any idea on costs etc

:D Why not go the whole hog and slap a V8 in there, it will fit........just.

(S500? thats V8 isnt it, sorry just been thinking)

AFAIK the exhaust manifold will fit to the head OK. The rest is almost immaterial as it's a project anyway.

It should work.

Nothing a few evening classes in basic mechanics should prevent me from doing lol.

With the cost of that I would be as well to go for the C class Turbo Upgrade

But looking at the cost
