So is it still with the original engine/gearbox/ chains or how much of the original car is left?.
Mind you a great advert for MB

I'd be interested in whether it has had a timing chain yet, but I'm sure the rest is original.
Dr Nicks E300 had 455K miles on when he sold it, the engine had never been apart.

From that pic it doesnt seem to be showing any wear at all deffinatly not from the bodywork ofcourse ! I noticed you got the facelift mirrors there with the little indicators, might be an idea to get the handles painted body colour in the future too

Only thing renewed on engine so far (touch wood) has been water pump and 2 sets of glow plugs, viscous fan and freewheeling pulley on alternator. Water pump went at 228K impellor broke and stopped turning relative to the pulley.

Engine, Gearbox and diff original. Engine gets Mobil1 every 10 and gearbox gets new oil every 50K starting at 160K.

Well if it aint broke or sounding rumbly then why fix it?
You have already got your moneys worth from the car anyway. Did you have it from new?

I'd get the 'stretch' checked. 5 deg of cam lag is the limit.

If you intend to keep the car it's probably worth a change anyway, just to be on the safe side, but not sure Dr Nicks was ever done.

They don't wear like the petrol engine ones due to no oil dilution and much less revs and longer gear ratios mean it actually turns less.

I think helix is full synth so it'll be just fine, alternatively why not use Millers XFS. Cheaper and possibly better.

For anyone interested in keeping their car for a long time a bypass filter is what you want.. you need never change the oil again.

Engine wear will be reduced to unmeasurable amounts.

I was going to fit one but got sidetracked..must get back onto it.

Is this bypass filter good for petrols as well?and what does it exactly do ? I am interested as this car might stay a bit longer in the family.

It cleans the oil to better than 1 micron. A normal filter is 25 micron due to being a full flow filter.

The oil needs never be changed again, or at least for a long time as it won't get dirty or wear, just change the bypass filter and top up every 10k miles or so.

Bypass filters are for all types of machinery and any type of engine.

KLEENOIL are who I would use.

Spoke with them and they are very knowledgeable and helpful.

In the good ole US of A they are much more into bypass filtration on lorries, do a search the results are amazing.
having said that some Euro engine manufacturers fit bypass or centrifugal filters as standard.
In fact Fiat didn't fit oil filters until well into the 1970's , they just used to centrifuge the oil or not at all, there is an argument that a standard full flow filter does nothing..

Make regular oil changes to the engine it really helps and make sure you use the best oil out there (Mobile1) ;)

I think it will go for a long time if you drive it well and take care of the engine!
