hi people what is the best mpg you have had from your 240 engine...
i dont really care about mgp actually when i buy a car i dint even consider it.. but people always complain and its gotten me interested in if my e240 is considered bad or good when it comes to mpg..

is this anygood

i think i have gotten 32.6 in the past before.. normal driving. hot weather.

2.4 - although as long as you aren't using the extra power the difference should be pretty small.

I got more than that once in my old CLK55!

When i first got my e430 i got exactly 31.5 mpg driving it home.

Have frequently got 30mpg on long trips driving it sensibly.

Wifes c320 isnt much better than mine and always thought 240 was no better than 320 hence the reason no one bought them:D

Drove all around germany belgium holland and got over 28mpg 80 everywhere.

Just slightly less around france doing same speeds.

I think crammy recently posted he got over 31 out of his e55.

Pics cant remember where they were, but i think 1284 miles one is France.

I had an E 240 Avantgarde X reg which I put 130000 miles on over two years.
The best I ever saw was on my weekly commutes to Yorkshire from Sussex, about 32mpg driving on cruise at a steady 80 and averaging just about 70, in fact similarto the OPs, which probably sounds pretty good, but...during the week the average would drop down into the mid 20s.
Immediately prior to this I had a 3 litre Omega which was significantly better both in commuting and around town.
The car was superb in every way excepting the economy which I thought poor and would probably be beaten by a larger engined variant as I think the 170bhp/2.6 probably underpowered for the E class.

I used to get 33mpg on a run out of my E320 pretty easily, got 37mpg once on a run up to J24 of the M1. Going from Calais -> Nurburg -> Stuttgart -> Calais would yield 28mpg.

Makes sense really same basic engine, so frictional losses pretty similar and probably a lower final drive ratio on the bigger engines, so lower rpm when cruising.

This thread reminds me of when we bought our first new car, we were strongly advised to pay the extra £ and buy an e240 over an e200 elegance.
Wish we'd listened.
The economy figures made the two litre the right choice on paper. In practice, it was so under powered for a large car we couldnt get anywhere close to it being an economical car, to be safe pulling out at junctions, roundabouts etc you had to boot it as there was little torque. Drove a 2.4 a short time after, what a difference, and that guy got consistently better mpg than us.

So you would have loved the 320:)

well i was only 20 when i got the e240 and insurance was 1600 or so.. cheap really but the 320 i coudlent get insured on being a type 1 diabetic and having 10 points.. so i went for what i could insure.. my points are gone now so im looking to keep the e240 add it to the collection (or sell who knows ) and get a V8 of some sort.. i drove a 320 and it dident seem that much different to my e240. bit more go but that was it.. that the reason why id love to get a cl500 so its worlds different compared to .. a lil bit different.
