Hi everyone found some great info on here so thought id register to see if anyone can help with ny problem.
Iv got a 2008 318cdi sprinter
Its had the boost silencer removed
A propper outlet welded to the Turbo with decent non leaky pipe work
Front mount intercooler
360 bearing turbo
De cat
Dpf delete
Rolling road remap making 280bhp
It

Its been perfect for about 3 years but recently it seems to over boost and drop in to limp mode, sometimes with the lamp flashing some times without. If I turn it off and ob its ok for a bit then does it again
Its been to Mercedes a few times but got nowhere
Its had the exhaust balance pressure sensor changed, and the pressure sensor thats screwed in to the airbox
Any ideas?

Perhaps Sticky vaines in the turbo or duff actuator

the Turbo was rebuilt in the summer, I took the turbo off to have the outlet modified and had it done while it was off, i have been thinking actuator.

Failing actuator would be my first port of call

Sounds like it is an actuator/waste gate issue. However, whenever turbo fails (especially when it’s been refurbished not that long ago) the actual cause of the issue needs thorough investigation. Perhaps your modification to the turbo itself is not agreeing with your turbo hence this has happened soon after the refurbishment? Turbo needs a thorough bench test.

Is it a Garret turbo?

The only modification to the Turbo was a 360' bearing this wouldn't increase its performance its only to improve its durability and its been fine for ages since the work was carried out, are any of the eBay actuator exchange places any good?

Have you got the brakes to handle 280 bhp ?

Its still limited to 100mph, just gets there a bit quicker. I do quite alot of towing with the van fully loaded for long distances and the extra power makes life so much easier

From what I understand an actuator cannot be purchased separately and is either another refurb for whole turbo or a whole new turbo unit as the actuator is coded/paired to the actual turbo.
Is there not any warranty on your turbo form the refurb company as was only done a few months ago hence should not fail so soon?

The only work they carried out was a new seal kit and the bearing plate upgrade so the work they did is fine, just want to know if anyone has had any success wuth these actuator refurb people on eBay?

You can get the actuator separately and I didn't think they were coded? This place is excellent if any use.

Had my actuator refurbished working fine now.

As I understand they are not coded but each actuator is specific to the car/van model type and needs to be positioned / installed correctly.

The circuit boards can fail due to heat and also the worm drive can be damaged.

Codes often relate to the back pressure sensor, mine went into limp only when part warm under acceleration

Best of luck

It could be with so much more power the turbo is working outside it's effective operating area and getting too hot with unburnt fuel overheating the blades. Have you considered upping the size slightly?
