...and it's been a wonderful experience so far. 3000 miles and I still look back at the car after I've parked it. Sometimes parking alongside 5-series and A6 and I just think my god, how blend are these cars?!

It's built like a tank but sadly as slow as one too :D

However I noticed a couple of tiny issues I wonder if you W212 facelift guys are on the same boat.

1) I am 5'11, with the driver seat on the highest setting, I still feel I sit a bit too low

2) the side hugging boosters are a bit tight and no I am not fat at all

3) gear changes are not the smoothest and you can definitely feel it when it changes, this bit is where I think BM have done a much better job

4) Front calipers are all rusty, do you guys sand and spray or just leave it?

5) The other night I discovered a flat tyre (damn nail!), I even drove a little bit before I found out but there was no warning light etc, does it have one or does it mean the sensor is faulty?

6) Winter is here and I can see my headlights are getting foggy inside near the LEDs :dk: leave it as it's normal? take it apart and re-seal it?

7) In icy mornings, the auto mirrors struggle to unfold, in motion it creates this nasty crackling/breaking sound inside (presumably some ice inside the mechanism), do you guys disable this feature in the winter?

8) Service book, it came with one but there doesn't seem to be any space for dealership stamps etc, is it store electronically at Merc?

9) Finally, mpg, over the course of 3000 miles with 70% of it spent in cities, according to the trip computer, I am averaging 36mpg. That doesn't seem so bad but on the motorway keeping it between 70-80mph, i can only get as high as 42mpg. That I feel is a bit low. Last 3 tanks brim to brim have cost pretty much the same, £60 for 400 miles. Normal?

Thank you

1) not found that to be so

2) I quite like the way they grip but this would be subjective.

3) mine has 9 speed box but previous car had 7 speed the gear changes are or should be extremely smooth, you could try a gearbox reset.

4) my calipers are not rusting

5) not sure but depends how far you travelled, the TPS system should warn you

6) mine has the ILS have not noticed any fogging but it could be occurring and I believe LED does not throw out any heat to clear.

7) not noticed on current car but prior car it did this but no harm caused I believe there is an inbuilt safety system like the wipers have

8) all electronic

9) seems low for your model but never believe Mercedes figures

You are welcome

Get the car on Xentry and reset the adaptions, possibly update the software if an update is available

On my W211 there is an option to re-start the TPS system, have you tried that?

7
I've turned the auto wing mirror close OFF and operate the function manually when needed. Over time the wires between mirroe and body break.

8
all done electronically if done by dealer/Indi with the kit. Register with Mercedes Me and you can gat services history on line.

Re the service aspect, I have always been given an A4 print out listing the current and previous services carried out by both Mercedes and the Indy I now use. Useful if you need to use Mobilo life breakdown cover after the Mercedes services.

I have averaged 48ish , mostly motorway driving, can easily get 50 plus if I am careful and it very rarely drops below 40 around town unless I have been stuck in exceptionally bad traffic in London.

Is this something only Merc garage can carry out? How much do they charge for a reset?

This could be the problem which is causing the poor gear selection and poor MPG. I better look into this. :thumb:

No, I haven't had a proper look yet. I am guessing this is done through the steering wheel menu? Just out of curiosity, where are these sensors?

I sort of expect this mechanism to fail at some point, there's only so many times this thing fold and unfold before it packs in.

Thank you for your answers, very helpful. Must have taken you a while using your ipad. :D

I will definitely get the gearbox reset and updated. That could potentially solve the gear selection issues and poor MPG. Would Merc be the best place to go?

I drove about 2-3 miles with the flat tyre, not one single warning light or sound from the dashboard. I only noticed it when I walked out of the car.

Though I'm not a 212 owner, here's a couple of my thoughts. If your car has only covered 3000 miles from new, it's not yet properly run in, so you should expect to see continuing mpg improvement over the next few thousand miles. Secondly, folding mirrors are frequently disabled by indy garages, as they are only too aware of the problems arising from the folding. The usual problem is with wires breaking at the fold point. Have a think about why you would want them folded in the first place and you might want to disable the automatic folding altogether.

Out of interest how do you do that?

This sorted it for me :-

Turn ignition on. Do not start
Press accelerator to floor.
Wait at least 10 seconds
Turn ignition off
Release pedal
Wait 2 mins

No, that's the worry. It's done 36k now.

I did the manual gearbox reset, cannot feel any difference.

I also put in redex and Shell Nitro to see it cleans anything up and make it different, MPG and response so far are the same
