I want to upgrade the standard speakers in my 92 124 coupe. I dont wsnt to cut any extra hole in the car, maybe some really good custom fit speakers. I dont mind spending a few quid on these so long as they are quality. Oh and also any recomendation on an amp to run them. Cheers.

Rainbow do the only custom fit ones I know of, IQ120 are the best KX120 are also pretty good. I have the KX120's which I got from RaySmith.co.uk
They can also fit in the rear shelf with a tiny mod on the plastic holders they sit in.

As for amps couldn't help you on that one, I just use the 4x45 on my head unit and use my amp to power the sub.

Agreed. The rainbows are much better than the standard speakers. They dont really need an amp to drive them.

yes, suggest the more expensive Rainbows to start off, you can then consider small sub to boost the bass if necessary.

IMHO the W124 needs a sub to make music listenable. Those 4" front speakers just don't cut it

Totally agree on the need for a sub. If you want a punchy bass then get a good 10" sub and if you want a more rounded bass then go for a good 12". I listen to all types of music and prefer the more natural bass of the 12" in a sealed box. If your head unit is at least 4 x 40W RMS then you should want about 2-300w RMS powering the sub.
I would suggest doing the fronts and getting a good sub/amp in before thinking about the rears, it does give a slightly fuller sound when the levels are set right but you can get it sounding pretty good without them.
