My ce died at traffic lights 2day.. All of a sudden. The engine turns fine but won't start. I pulled one lead off and turn the engine over but there is nospark. I think itcould be the coil. Is this a sensible step. Any ideas.

more worrying it is the ignition module check the cables from and too it to the engine a coil.

it controls the start and spark, if u have spare (beg or borrow one) u could connect the other and try to start to see if that is the problem, u can get recondition yours if it the guilty party

If you are wondering what dinoy is refering to it looks something like this.

I had the same problem on an old w123 a long time ago and it was this thing! No warning, just bang, stopped working.....

Had the same problem on an old 300e-24 we used to have. Turned out to be a tiny crack in the distributor cap. Worth checking as easy to replace if a bit costly.

GP801 could be right, but I always found that a cracked or damp distributor will usually let you start the car but it won't rev or let you pull away, just stalls.

But definately worth a look........

Ours was running fine one minute then just refused to go at all.

Try a little WD40 in the dizzy, see if that helps things along a little, used to help my old Mini many moons ago on a cold damp morning!

Also, Smoothcoupe, is the E280 still for sale?

Hi mate. Someone has left a deposit on the e280 about 2 weeks ago and not returned. I will wait another week or so and then let you know, as this clown promised to return the next day. Cheers

Normally the case!!

I'll collect the same weekend :thumb: Does it have cruise?

Don`t tell me you sold yours?

Not at all, she is sat on the drive with 4 flat tyres needing a few bits and bobs. I could do with a load of little bits, buying the whole car from Smoothcoupe is a very good plan :thumb:

I'm trying to get it on the road ready for your next pre 95 meeting!! :bannana:
