It's a big job, the ones that I've seen have the grille and front section of the sl bonnet blended into the w124 bonnet.

Personally I wouldn't do it. I've seen two with it and both looked odd (Rude Merc's come to mind), maybe something to do with what carat 3.6 mentioned. Anyway, the car looks just great the way it is and all you'll do is devalue it at the end of the day. Spend the money elsewhere, suspension, exhaust system, rust proofing, 300-24V engine transplant etc. :D

Rude mercs, there's a name from the past. +1 for the 300-24 swap.:thumb:

SEC look grille - I've got a bonnet with one fitted as it happens.

Old skool mod that involved rivets and filler.

Thanks for your help bit to much work for me cheers I'm new to this but can anyone tell me what engine would be a good upgrade

The m103 engine in your car is a good engine, you can tune that if you like. Or fit a later m104, which will be a bolt in job.

There are v8 or v12 options but those cost a fair bit to carry out.

Thanks I have the 104 engine but the wire ring loom is knackerd was thinking of the changeing to a newer engine as it's nearly just as cheap what would you recommend cheers

Ah, I assumed you had a 300ce not a 320. In that case just repair the wiring loom. Fitting anything later than the m104 you already have will be very expensive, unless you have a budget in mind?

Thanks just got another car an e280 1996 do you no if this engine would fit or like you said go with the wireing loom cheers your feedback is appreciated cheers

It seems a tad pointless to change to a smaller engine, especially as you will still need to address the wiring issue.

I take it your's has the 300-24 engine.

Yeah 300ce 24 valve but it's a bit of mess

I love the 24v engine, it was special

New loom, give it a good clean up, will be great, does it run ok?

Keep the 300-24 engine, those are much more fun than the later m104.

Are you sure yours has loom trouble? they don't normally suffer from that.

Yeah a few split wires here and there but the engine runs perfect just needs a bit of time spent on her
