Hi All,

I was driving back home yesterday doing about 40mph when i had a sudden loss of all power. I pulled over and turned the ignition off then back on and the car started on the button as she usually does and i carried on without any further issues (there was plenty of petrol in the tank).

When i got home and put the car in P, the revs went up to about 1500 for about a second and then dropped back down to normal tickover.

Anyone have an idea as to what this could be and whether something is on its way out or needs to be changed?

Many Thanks in advance!

Had similar problem years ago with the same engine, but mine had this totally random intermittent fault similar to your description. After looking at all the simple fixes fuel pump relay, fuel pumps etc. it turned out to be the ecu we found this by swopping this from another vehicle. I think at the time it was about 7/800 to replace. You probably need to find a knowledgable mechanic to fault find this I was always hoping that it would stop altogether rather than this random intermittent fault. Most frustrating time I remember maybe you will be lucky and it won't happen again.

The 'stalling' thing happened to me a year a so back. although different engine maybe same characteristics?

mine happened when i was doing a 3 point turn though. Shifting through the D and R gears. I was through my 3rd point and put her into D and she cut. Started her up again and was all normal.

Symptons never returned touch wood. Might be a polite riminder where she's telling us who rules who still!

Many Thanks for the info chaps!

I think you could be right there Bill!! I took her out yesterday and all was fine, no symptoms whatsoever. If it happens again i'll investigate further but will keep my fingers crossed for now!
