300E Gearbox problem

Hi guys

I got in my 1988 300E this morning and it wouldn't go. I started first turn as normal, and it seemed to be running ok. But when I moved in the gear lever in to D nothing happened, I seem to have lost all gears.

I seem to be developing a pain in the wallet.

Does any one have any ideas, it was running fine yesterday.

Sounds silly but are you sure it's the box not turning, not something like a broken drive shaft or flexible coupling.
If it's the box then it sounds like the oil pump drive has gone.
