As I have owned my 1st Mercedes only for 1 week I am hoping someone in this forum may have some experience of a fault it has developed. It starts with no problem but just before it gets to normal operating temperature it either (a) cuts out if I am going slow (fairly scary on the M25 in traffic) or (b) misfires then continues. If it cuts out it will not start for a few minutes then is ok. When it is at normal temp it does not cut out. It does feel more hesitant than usual and less responsive. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Klazell

Do you know when the last service was done, and what they had changed? It seems to me, and maybe other members can confirm, you could do with a new set of plugs and a good clean of you air intake housing. You've probably got a build up of carbon.

Sounds like good advice as though it has had FMB history on checking the service book it has only had an oil change in the last 10,000! Thanks

I would get the car diagnosed asap. You could start with the plugs, ht leads (mb only) and see how you go. WHat miles has she done?

Then move onto the MAF (air flow meter), check the filters (x2 i think) and maybe your purge control?

I had a slight misfire and changed all of the above but offender was the purge control valve which when changed eventually cured my misfire.

Knowledge of the service history is important, has it had one recently or not. It sounds as if it needs one.

The fault appears to be ignition, as has been said could be plugs, or distributor, leads etc. When warm any problem with condensation will be reduced thus the fault appearing to go away. It hasn't - just sitting waiting for the next cold start. Could try spraying with WD40 or Surestart to reduce condensation.

Hope you have some warranty with this vehicle, as after one week it is "Not fit for purpose" and needs returning for rectification.
