Hi All,

The display on my dash says ive got 18 days left before my benz is due for an A service.

I have read that MB have started an express "A" service in some of their dealerships .. does any one know if there is a dealership in London or within a one hour drive from London where this is provided ?

Also any idea what they charge for this ? is it much more than the normal charge ? Apparently they have five people working on the car at the same time...

to be honest i am not so concerned about the quality that comes with this speed.. as i take my car to a specialist at least twice a year anyway .. i am only doing this to get the "official" service stamp on my book..

I think MB Canary Wharf and MB Swiss Cottage do service while you wait.

It's set out in www.mercedesretail.co.uk

 We're talking about Mercedes Benz here. You don't think this express service is there for your convenience or to save you time, surely. My local dealer now charges £240 for an A service on the A class - for an oil and filter change! - so expect it to be all of £300.

I just had a "while you wait" A Service at MB in Dartford. Very good - cost approx £300. I arranged a test drive of another model at the same time so I wasn't bored !

Thanks for all the replies .. there seem to be at least three places in or around london where this is done. The irony is that about 300 miles ago ( one month ago) i had the oil and filter changed at George Fraser.. at the time the dash display showed that i had 3500 miles before the A service is due, so i thought i have the oil changed in the meantime. Then suddenly two weeks ago the 3500 miles-left display changed to number of days left of 21, 20, 18 etc.

SO the car doesnt actually need an oil change.. as i had that done recently, but the display counter says i should. Note the last time i had an MB service was a "B" service one and a half years ago, so i guess because of the lapse of this period of time the car is "requesting" a service even though it wasnt due for one, mileage wise, for another 3500 miles. Also note i have driven the car 6500 miles in the one and a half years since that B service, and at the time i had that service done the MB people reset the service counter to a fixed 10000-mile count down (hence 6500+3500 = 10000)

So it comes down to having to pay £300 just for the official service stamp ! i wonder if its really worth it.. in those one and half years i had the oil changed about three time by G Fraser + load of things done but havent asked him to stamp the service book (i do have the invoices though )

Any opinions.. for a car with my total mileage (66000) and age (1999, out of warranty) is it really worth continuing to have "official" MB serrvice .. or should i just have that done cheaper at GF ...

I have recently heard a tale that if you miss one MB stamp in your book you may as well have missed them all. I don,t know how true this is, but does the extra money spent on servicing costs with Mb really put that much resale value on the car. I don,t think so. In my opinion when a car is out of warranty a good independent is just as good if not better, they will do more work for the same price.

Hi,

Does this mean that MB Dealers can 'control' service intervals by resetting ASSYST to a 'fixed' or 'variable' mode?

Cheers.

I think it depends on how long you intend to keep the car. If it's for the long haul, then I would avoid MB stealership prices. If you can show lots of invoices for good maintenance of your car, your next buyer will be just as happy.

However, if you do an A service now, you get Mobilo Life for another year, so that may be a worthwhile benefit.
